I have a Compaq Presario V6000 laptop, and I want to dual boot with vista 32bit and any version of mac os. I have checked compatibiliy lists and found no confirmed compatibility, or incompatibility. I already burned a copy of Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1] dvd and I went through the install. I only installed the minimum requirments. I want to boot of an external hard drive. It is a Lacie F.D. Porsche 500 GB. I would like to use half for Mac and the rest for extra storage for my vista. Is there a way for mac to just install on the external and work? Could I run leopard?

My specs on my laptop are:

AMD Mobile Sempron 3500+ 1.8 GHz

2 gigs of RAM32 bit sysACPI x86-based

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150

Mati{censored}a DVD-RAM UJ-851S ATA Device

Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN

Conexant High Definition Audio

120GB built in hd

3 usb

I don't know if mine is sse2 or sse3 and such, dont know how to check.

thats about all I can find out

The external was formatted to FAT32 but I think disk utility changed that.

I have a few photos of the error that I will post in the next reply post. When I was installing 10.4.8, I partitioned the drive using the disk utility, then did the erase stuff that I found in another guide. http://######.com/software/osxusbnative.htm . Then I installed the os and I allowed it do check the install disk and it found no errors. Then it installed in about an hour and a half. Then it gave me the option of restarting and I did but it didn't complete the restart by itself. So after letting it try to restart showing me a dos like screen for a while I manually did it. Then tried to boot from the external hd and then it gave me the error after showing me the grey apple.

How do I fix this, without damaging my vista. I am willing to reinstall the mac, use a different version, etc. If I need to uninstall mac to reinstall, how do I do it properly? I am not well versed in changing bios or partitioning since this is my first time. Thanks very much. Here are the pics.

My laptop is similar(but my is for Brazil, very simple because I´m from Brazil):

Compaq v6210br

AMD Mobile Sempron 3500+ 1.8 GHz

1,25 gigs of RAM32 bit 667Mhz

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150

Mati{censored}a DVD-RAM UJ-851S ATA Device

Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN

Alsant High Definition Audio

60GB built in hd

Your processor use SSE \ SSE2 only. I discovered in the Parted Magic 4.8 live CD. It´s run in the ram , very tools excelent for this case.

I try IAtkos Leopard 10.5.6 , run very good, but it´s only for AMD-SSE3. Intall ok, but my mouse usb unable and I could not setting. I believe that any error in the my install.I will check.

Hi,

Wow this is an old thread that I totally forgot about. I appreciate the help but I nolonger have mac os on my compaq. I still have the laptop, but I deleted that partition.

I was able to get it to work properly in the end, and I enjoyed it. But because the external hard drive had a power cord, I found it inconvenient. I liked mac os so much I bought a MacBook Pro and had it for a year or so, but I just sold it a couple weeks ago. I still have all my install stuff so who knows, I may end up trying again someday.

But thank you for your help,

Sincerely,

Jordan
