Yes it is, if you click on the "listen to live audio" it opens a smaller windows that asks what to open with,

then there is a option to "Launch this in a standalone player" Use VLC.app it will give you an error, but if you dismiss the error and press the play button it works¨

If I try "open with", there are only two variants - Real and WIndows Media Player... NO iTunes.

SO I've found another way :(

A reply is on their site...

"Can I listen live to BBC Radio stations using iTunes?

We have no plans at present to use iTunes to distribute our live radio streams. You can listen live to any of the BBC’s stations by using the BBC iPlayer. All stations are available in Real Media format, and some are also available in Windows Media Audio format.

However, you can subscribe to and download BBC podcasts using iTunes. All audio podcasts from the BBC are in the mp3 format, and you can download a wide range of full programmes and best bits from the Podcast Directory within the iTunes Music Store."

I've loaded BBC podcasts using iTunes and now I may listen to the radio through iTunes!!! :):):):):):):):):):):)

One more variant to avoid Real Player is this site:

Choose "Listen live - Win"
