I have seen posts which claim that Sigmatel 9220 audio is working through the Azalia driver. Which Codec are you using? Is it AppleAudioCodecGeneric or is it AppleAudioCodecALC880?

I have a 9220 and I can get the controls to work, it THINKS is has sound, but nothing is coming out of the speakers or the earphone jack on my laptop. There is no other sound out port.

Thanks

Use microphone output or line in, I have sigmatel 9220 and I don't have sound in correct jack.

AppleAudioCodecGeneric might be the one as sigmatel codec has nothing to do with ALCXXX realtec codec.

Azalia makes certain assumptions about how its inputs are configured. Apparently it uses some resistor array (or scheme) to determine if there is a plug attached to a given port or not. It's smart so it knows to not listen to inputs that are not connected, and probably knows to only use 2 channel output when that's all the outputs which are connected.

However, standard PC front-panel connections are not working in a way Azalia wants, so they can confuse the chip. This might be accounting for why you need to use your mic for output and stuff like that. See if your motherboard or sound card has any information about switching the audio connections between Azalia and legacy multimedia connectors.

hmmm, so maybe if I have headphones hooked up _at_boot_time_ it might recognize the port and enable it? I'll have to try that when I get home if you think it might help. Given that this is a laptop, though, I'm wondering why it doesn't seem the internal speakers as "connected."

Also, when I do a bunch of snooping around in /proc on Linux I find "Susbystem IDs" for audio stuff which look like they might represent various input/output ports available. Anyone know about that? Perhaps there is a solution to this by setting that ID somewhere on OSX?

According to the Wiki (linked in my sig below), I find this comment:

Intel ICH7 HD Audio on Realtek AC (Need to add ALC882 and Audio controller to Azalia kext (two info.plists))

Apparently people are talking about editing the kernel extension:

8F1111 - IDE, SATA and USB work fine. Audio works with Azalia kext or HDA kext from 8F1099. Ethernet works but can´t make SSL connections.

That one seems to imply that a kext from 1099 can be substituted and make it work again. I'm definitely forming an opinion that as the beta of OS X has evolved, it has become LESS compatible with hardware - for a reason. This is probably why a lot of people are happier with 1099.
