Well I was following the digg instructions on installing osx86. I did everything exactly how it said it, but when I reboot and put in the DVD cd with the iso on it, I press enter to let it start and it goes to the screen with apple logo and the circle and just sits there and does nothing. So I figured i'd wait an hour, and I did and still nothing happened. Any idea what else I could do? I have the 3700+ San Diego core.

dood next time pls use the search. there are so many posts on this topic. lazy ppl are not really appreciated

I completely agree... please search for threads that already pertain to your question.

For the sake of answering most installation questions though in one thread, I will post my list of steps to take and things to look for.

1.) Make sure that your CD/DVD drive is on your Primary IDE cable. The OSX Installer does not read things from the secondary IDE.

2.) Start in Verbose Mode; this is done by pressing F8 when you see the darwin message, and typing -v as the boot command. This is only necessary if you are recieving errors or the installer appears to 'hang' as it's starting up

3.) If you fail to boot, write down the error(s) you see from the text that shows in verbose mode. You will need to look these up to fix the issue and be able to install (generally though you won't get any errors)

4.) When you finally get into the installer, there is a good chance that it did not mount your Hard Drive. There is also a good chance you will need to format it first as well. To do this, on the menu bar at the top click Utilities->Disk Utility; When in Disk Utility, select the drive you wish to format (or the partition if it's already split into partitions), select the erase tab, select the format you want it (I suggest the first one on the list, though it won't be natively readable by windows, it's the most stable for the OS). After that, click Erase... this will format and mount the drive. Quit Disk Utility and proceed with the install as normal.

After Install:

1.) Make sure you take the install CD/DVD out of your drive. If you are dual-booting, and you do not see the darwin screen (ex. it goes to your normal boot sequence) you may have to find another way to get OSX to boot (for windows users, i suggest downloading chain0, putting it on your main windows boot drive (assumed to be C:\) and add C:\chain0="Mac OS X86" to the end of boot.ini).

2.) It is strongly suggested you boot with platform=X86PC as a boot option. you will probably not always need to boot with the -v boot option, but i also suggest that for the first time.

3.) If you see any errors come up when booting to verbose mode, write them down... something that seems very trivial can slow the OS down a lot by continually trying to run in the background.

4.) Once you get into OSX, if you had to use an alternate boot loader to get in, i suggest you go into your system preferences->startup disk and select your Mac OS X install. There is a decent chance this will make Darwin your default, and Darwin should auto-detect your other OS's.

5.) If you are concerned about devices not working (sound, audio, etc...) i suggest writing down exactally what kind they are, and looking up their compatability on the forums or with the wiki compatability list. (Because network cards seem to be asked about more than anything else, i suggest also checking out the Networking Tulip if you cannot get your network card working)

Well I didn't quite understand the other installation methods. Though, here is my problem: I went into -v mode and what it does is identify the computer and everything connected to the peripherals then says "Got boot device".... then from there it just hangs and does nothing.
