I successfully installed OS X 10.4.8 on my T43, I would like to share how my install went as well as how well OS X is running on my machine for those of you with T43 or similar notebooks. I know how hard it is for new guys to get started, so hopefully this will help someone out there. By every definition of the word, I am still a newbie to this scene and any tips or constructive criticism would be very beneficial.

For reference my machine type is 2668-75U.

My Install:

Using Jas 2.0 SSE2/SSE3 install I started by doing a clean install, using disc utility from the installation disc I formatted my drive to the Mac OS Extended Journaled file system and installed OS X for SSE2 intel. From the common hardware i used the Radeon x600 driver and power managemnt drivers.

For fun I also installed the HP printer drivers, but I have not tried using my HP printer yet. For a speedier install I chose to not install any additional languages and none of the other printer drivers except HP.

After the Install my machine booted into OSX perfectly. The graphics seem to be smooth and responsive, ie: minimizing and expanding windows, all around the OS seems to run speedy and stable.

Installation Notes:

After installation I used GParted Live Disk Utility to create a NTFS partition on my hard drive. I booted from Windows Vista installation disc and installed Windows Vista Ultimate. To dual boot I installed Acronis Disk Director Suite and Acronis OS Selector.

After booting into Acronis, my OSX installation shows up as Unkown Operating System, after changing this in options and selecting the option create boot record upon operating system startup, or something along those lines. Now I can select if I want to boot into OSX or Vista!!

Hardware that works:

Bluetooth works, I have been able to successfully pair with a Windows Mobile 6 device, however I wasnt able to do much more than that. I plan to pair my laptop with a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and post my results.

Graphics cannot be changed from 1024x768, but work fine. I would like to add that my actual graphics card is a Radeon x300 mobility, not a x600.

Sound works well, I havent tried any games or MP3's yet, but system sounds work.

Mouse pad works find along with little finger mouse guy.

Function keys on my keyboard do work, i can change the volume using the volume arrows and I can turn my bluetooth on and off. (this also works for my wifi, but more on that later.)

Hardware that doesnt work:

Ethernet and Wireless. Both do not show up under Control Panel and Airport is not detected.

Synopsis:

Overall my installation is a success in my oppinion, I only have 3 problems, no ethernet, no wireless and low resolution. I hope in time I will be able to overcome these shortcomings.

After browsing around the forums I have tried a few of the popular hacks/drivers available.

Hacks/Drivers I have tried and my results:

After installing the 10.4.5 Update IONetworkingfamily.kext and IO80211Family.kext using Pacifist, OS X was able to detect an Airport card, but when clicking on the airport icon it said "airport not configured" in greyed out writing. When I went to my control panel>network, I could not enable Airport, but to my surprise I ethernet was detected. Unfortunately I can not get IP address via DHCP, nor can I manually assign IP. OSX acts like no ethernet cable is conncted.

Broadcom Ethernet:

Currently I am reading through the forums and trying various hacks/drivers to fix my Broadcom NetExtreme Gigabit Ethernet adapter. I will post my results in the form of updates below. There is a good thread to start out found here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...m570&st=20.

I will try tinheads AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext found on the first page of the thread. But after reading through the thread I am worried I will have to patch my own file using the method found further in the thread:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...570&st=120.

Hater provides a good fix and other members provide step by step instructions on patching your own AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext.

Update 2-23-07:

Found some good directions on the forums above, sorry lost the name of who wrote it:

My DEV_ID of BCM5751 is "1677" (VEN_ID is "14E4").

MAC ADDRESS is "00:13:72:18:XX:YY". (replace XX YY as yours)

You can check these numbers in Windows.

Also you need the following tool or similar software called "binary editor" or "hex editor".

Hex Edit (freeware)

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10658

---

Run terminal

sudo -s

cd /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext/Contents/MacOS

cp AppleBCM5701Ethernet /Users/your_account_name/Desktop

---

(back to Desktop)

1) right click AppleBCM5701Ethernet, Get Info.

2) change ownership & permissions as you can modify it.

3) run HexEdit, then open AppleBCM5701Ethernet

4) choose "Find & Replace" from menu.

5) Find: "66 81 FA 59 16" /Replace with: "66 81 FA 77 16"

(my DEV_ID was 1677, you type yours at last two bytes)

6) Matching: "Hex: (<-choose this)

7) push "Replace All"

8) scroll down to 37550

9) change address 37554, 37555 of "75 71" to "EB 71"

10) then save file and quit Hex Edit.

11) change ownership & permissions as before (by Get Info)

ownership="system" and group="wheel"

12) (return to terminal)

---

cp /Users/your_account_name/Desktop/AppleBCM5701Ethernet ./

shutdown -r now (or reboot)

---

(after reboot, run terminal)

sudo ifconfig en0 ether 00:13:72:18:XX:YY

(machine should get IP address if you connect cable)

I did not need the following steps which Hater mentioned.

---

# renew IP

sudo ipconfig set en0 BOOTP

sudo ipconfig set en0 DHCP

I havent been able to get this to work for me but others have so its worth a shot.

Atheros/Intel2200A/B/G Wireless adapter:

<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript"> Now this is a where I have run into some confusion, on Lenovo's website my machine type is listed as having a Intel PRO 2200bg, 2915abg, 3945bg, 3945abg, 4965ag, and 4965agn Mini PCI adapter. I havent figured out which one exactly I have because I am running Windows Vista, which lists my adapter as a Atheros Wireless Network Adapter.

This forum contains threads on people working on drivers for both Wireless adapters, I have tried a variety of Intel drivers as mentioned here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/i...p/t36976-0.html

Drivers I have tried that have not worked (using IONetworkingFamily.kext and IO80211Family.kext from 10.4.5 Update):

- PROSet/Wireless 2200b/g and 2915a/b/g

- PROSet/Wireless 3945a/b/g

- PROSet/Wireless 4965a/g/n

ATI Radeon:

The only issues I have with my graphics is that I cannot change my resolution from 1024x768, I have tried a few small hacks, but none have been successful. There is number of threads on this forum that look helpful and contain hacks as well as drivers. Unfortunately resolution is not a big issue for me at the moment, I would much rather have my internet working, so most of my attention has gone towards trying various ethernet and wireless hacks/drivers. When I get a chance, I will also follow up on this.

Another Good Resource:

In the following days/weeks/months, I will be posting any progress I make as well as what type of results I get from trying the various drivers/hacks available on this forum. Good luck and happy hacking on your hackintosh's!!

  • 1 month later...

Have you gotten anywhere with the wireless drivers? I have a similar T43 2668-72u. I think the only difference is the processor speed.

I was able to update the video resolution quire easily by going int boot.plist and adding

"<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1400x1050x32</string>"

This works fine and so far has had no problems, but in system profiler it says the video card is 128mb but that is probably because I loaded the x600 drivers.

Let me know what you find out about the wireless.

Thanks.

  • 2 months later...

I installed Kalyway 10.5.1 on T43 2669 and I had same problem with Broadcom Ethernet.

I found the problem is kext won't be able to get MAC address. I didn't patch kext but added plist in /Library/LaunchDaemons and a shell script. It works fine except you need to unplug cable while booting :-)

Here's the script and plist

/usr/local/bin/CheckEthers

(replace aa.bb.cc.dd.ee.ff with your MAC address and chmod to 744)

------------------------------------------

#!/bin/sh

. /etc/rc.common

##

# Set MAC address if it's 0:0:0:0:0:0

##

test=$(ifconfig -a inet 2>&1 | grep 'en0 has no inet' | wc -l)

if [ "${test}" -gt 0 ]; then

ifconfig en0 up

ifconfig en0 lladdr aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff

ifconfig en0 down

ifconfig en0 up

echo "set en0 MAC address as aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff"

fi

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.t43.checkethers.plist

(Tiger user need to conver this to old style plist)
