Hello everyone,

I have 3 questions

1. It seems like everytime I try it again, it does better...it didn't cause a kernel panic at all this past time. But when it went to install the "essentials", it stopped and said there were errors during installation and the only option I got was to restart.

During installation, the DVD goes then stops, goes then stops, and the green LED goes on for like .5 seconds, then goes off for .5 seconds, and comes back on again. It's almost like it's not reading it very much. Do you think it's a bad DVD, or do you think there is other problems?

I put in an older DVD drive, and it couldn't even read it at all, but then again the drive is a piece (of ****).

This version is patched with Wesley's patch.

2. However, what do I do with the .md5 file??? I couldn't find that anywhere on this board about what to do with it.

3. Also, the failed installation destroyed my bootloader, now I can't even boot to Windows. How do I restore the bootloader?

Thanks alot,

Zeldacon

Computer is a Dell

Pentium 4 @ 1.6 GHz

512 MB DDR SDRAM

Asus nVidia GeForce 4/MX400

I will check my processor's features under System Profiler next time and post what it says.

I know this can work, but I'm getting frustrated because something different always happens.

The MD5 is for checking the validity of the file. if you search on google for md5summer, you will be able to use that program to check the .iso to see if it's not corrupt.

Your DVD problem sounds like a bad burn. I have the same image burned to dvd and didn't have any problems on 2 separate DVD drives. You might want to try burning slower.

The MBR problem could be fixed with a dos boot disk (with fdisk on it) when you boot to dos, run the command "fdisk /mbr" that should replace the broken one with a backup of the XP MBR.

Thanks alot man. I'll give those a try.

Only thing is, md5summer.exe is a Windows executable. All I have is my PowerMac G4 running true Mac OS X 10.4.4. I don't have Virtual PC. So what I'll have to do is get out my Windows 98SE boot disk and fix the MBR.

Also, I burned at the slowest speed possible, like 2 or 4 something. I just bought some Sony DVD+Rs tonight. I was using Memorex DVD+R.
