Cannot boot from external USB

Hi,

 

I have an Asrock Dual VSTA mb with a C2D 6300 cpu. I am trying to install and boot from an external USB hard drive.

 

I downloaded and burned the Jas 10.4.8 SSE3 Intel only DVD, which seemed to install everything ok.

 

I followed the guide found here:

When I boot in verbose mode, I get the following error:

 

Couldn't alloc class "AppleUSBUHCI"

 

I have tried to search for answers to this problem, but I havn't found any which seem to apply to booting from USB.
