Chris_G.
specs: -windows xp media center edition 2005 -mac os x 10.4.9 (jas) intel pentium 4 w/hyperthreading 3.0 ghz 1gb ram ati x300 graphics card w/128mb samsung s182d writemaster dvd burner dell cdrw/dvd rom drive intel pro 100ve network card sigmatel audio 9220 80gb sata maxtor hd i have a dual boot setup with windows xp media center edition 2005 and mac os x 10.4.9. im using the acronis disk director suit 10 to switch between systems. if you want to dual boot xp and osx you need acronis disk director suit or a similar software. windows xp is my default but its possible to do a straight install of os x without xp installed at all. in wich case you wouldnt need any way to switch between os's Installing jas 10.4.8: i was having trouble for the longest time getting the mouse tearing to stop, and the network card to work but other then that everything works perfect rite after install. download the jas 10.4.8 dvd with the 10.4.9 combo update. run the installer like any other osx86 installation. for intel users select the intel kexts. i experimented with graphics drivers and such and i found that if you install the ati x600 mobility driver from the 10.4.8 disc there isnt any mouse tearing so remember to select that during the install. continue the install and wait for it to complete and boot into mac. sigmatel, graphics, dvd burner, memory, and processor speed is all as it should be. jas 10.4.9 combo update install: run the combo update included with the torrent you downloaded if it was included. Network fix: (you need to know the device id and vendor id. mine is 27dc8086 and should be the same for any dell e510 or similar)now download the old ionetworking and appleintel8255x kexts (the ones that work with 10.4.6 and earlier. ill provide a link if anyone needs it.) replace the ionetworking.kext and the applintel8255x.kext in the system/library/extensions folder. it will ask u to authenticate and enter your password. now open up the terminal and type this in: sudo vi /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8255x.kext/Contents/Info.plist --it'll ask you for your password. type it in and press enter to continue. --now using the down arrow on the keyboard scroll down untill you find this code(or something similar): <key>IOPCIMatch</key> <string>0x10518086 0x10508086 0x10298086 0x10308086&0xfff0ffff 0x12098086 0x12278086 0x12288086 0x12298086 0x24498086 0x24598086 0x245d8086 0x10918086 0x10608086&0xfff0ffff</string> --scroll over to the code and hit i on the keyboard to insert text. enter the device and vendor id (0x27dc8086) --when finished, hit escape --if u make a mistake type :q! into the terminal to cancel wat you changed and start over --after you enter the device and vendor id, type :wq! into the terminal to save changes. --now type rm /System/Library/Extensions into the terminal to clear the cache --Quit out of terminal and open disk utility and repair disk permissions. Reboot your pc and enjoy mac os x 10.4.9! everything works seemlessly as far as i can see. in the about this mac box however it says the intel pentium 4 is a intel core solo. it uses the 3ghz but i havent figured out the hyperthreading yet and am unsure if its used or not. anyone feel free to correct mistakes if needed.
