I am planning on buying a new motherboard (a Gigabyte I think) and I would like to know what the MacBook / MacBook Pro motherboard Chipset is, along with what the Southbridge is. Knowing what integrated video is used would also be helpful.

If anyone has CPU-Z running on Windows on their MacBook (Pro), if you could post the stats, that would be great (of if you just know what the MacBooks have/have had). Otherwise, if someone knows of a Gigabyte / Intel Brand motherboard that is FULLY supported in Leopard (incl. Chipset, Sound, Video [Full CI/QE], Ethernet, RAID, SATA, etc.) that would also be useful information.

I am trying to get something that closely resembles the MacBook, so that as I update, I won't have to recompile/replace drivers, since they will support the hardware by default.

Thanks for any help. :D

(my emphasis) . . look; this is just not going to work in the way you intend.

Apple - happily - now use or have used a small~ish range of fairly standard x86 components; & if you select your OSX86 motherboard, vidcard, & etc very carefully you can set up an install of a given version of OSX86 to more-or-less perfect function.

. . but Apple's point updates [ie 10.4.9>10.4.10] replace the kernel & its closely-linked extensions with new versions; &, since the basic logic of an Apple motherboard [EFI] is different to a normal BIOS/ACPI x86 motherboard, those profoundly hacked parts of OSX86 which support basic function [the translation from or emulation of BIOS/ACPI to EFI] need to be backed up & replaced - or themselves updated - with each point update.

You will never, ever get an OSX86 system which will accept unhacked Apple system updates.

PS: OSX does not support 'firmware RAID' [the driver-dependent wincludge which comes with NFORCE/Intel chipset motherboards].

I completely understand that I will not be able to use an unhacked version of Mac OS X. That was never my intention, even though you thought it was. I am only looking for something that will have natively supported drivers. This has nothing to do with EFI or TPM. Those things will still need to be fixed for each update, I understand!

My basic question is: Is there a motherboard that has fully supported video, sound, chipset, etc. that is supported by default with the kexts included with Mac OS X?
