You can check out my specs in my sig and adjust as necessary to fit your budget. Every install disk since 10.4.4 has loaded without any problems other than those built into the installer itself. Not the newest as one person on this forum is always quick to point out, but it's as powerful for osx as any out there and it's a piece of cake to install on...which if you read most of the posts lately, isn't all that common.

Do you need the creative labs card to do audio? Does the onboard NIC work?

Does anyone else have a recommended hardware config?

'Easy Life' Hardware (others feel free to chime in, just in my limited experience)

MobosD975XBX2 Bad axe 2

Asus P5W DHGraphicsGeforce 7 Series 7300 GT up try and keep ram under 256mb

ATI X1950 XT

Sound with input - SBlive USB

CPU - Core2Duo

You might want to get a sata opticals and hard disks, just to keep it simple

@candykane, what mobo is that? the Asrock one?

. . would cut the 'easy' vidcards down to any NV40 [most 6xxx] plus in principle all 7xxx 256MB or less; & the P5WDH has onboard working sound [fully working] - only if you need high-quality sound would you need to look for an external solution, then if so look for (say) an M-Audio firewire box.

ICH8/9 mobos have either no Southbridge PATA at all or often use the jmicron thingie [whiich is a hassle] - i975X mobos most all use the ICH7 & have onboard PATA.

Intel chipset/C2D/NVidia vidcard is the basic start-point; together with use of the search function here plus the Wiki

i have a asus P5W DH deluxe

but same as the intel these boards are getting old

every thing is documented tons of how to and guides and you do have a nice online helpdesk (loads of users have them)

but i would go for a newer board like the asrock it have better support for faster ram newer processors. and is way cheaper to experiment with . in theory you can build a mac for less then 200 bucks with this baby

(my emphasis) . . decent quality mobos can last a reasonable time: as you can see here, many Asus P945/P965/i975X mobos [including models well-proven for OSX86], with updated firmware, support the newest 45nm 'Penryn' CPUs . . this includes the P5WDH.

DDR3 may, one day, offer noticeably better performance at an affordable price; but at the moment many DDR3 P35/P38 mobos have a close relative using DDR2 . . & these are the big sellers with DDR2 PC6400 being so incredibly cheap.

would you look at that

I got this board when it was brand new like a month in circulation payed 250 euro's for it and after 2 years

im still getting upgrades ) 1333 mhz bus hmm did not know we whent above a 1000.

any way back 2 the point any of the boards is easy to install all have the same installation procedures

sinds the asrock has video on board intel gma 950 witch supported naturally in osx . its way cheaper then the compitition

its a great board for some one new to the sene so he can test drive the system befor he commits . we all hav had a head age or 2 from a hackintosh machine . not installing / upgrading properly sleep funcion not working right, up grading having to reinstall all the drivers ect ect.

Having a asus P5w deluxe does have 1 avantage we have a custom patch for the new leopard os

- I have run this P5WDH continuously at '1600' [ie 400MHz] ever since I bought it.

. .. but of course: at least two of the hardcore devs use this mobo.
