Really quick question.

In Vista, when I want to quickly start a program I push the *Windows* button on the keyboard (don't need the mouse), quickly type in the name (or the start of the name) of the program, click enter and immediately the program opens.

Not sure where Smart FTP is in my program list? Doesn't matter, press the Windows key, type SmartFTP and press enter. Once I learn that SmartFTP is the only installed program beginning with S, I can simply press the Windows key, type S and hit enter.

It always amazes people when they ask "Let me see the new Photoshop", and I *seemingly magically* bring it up immediately.

I can literally start up any program on my machine in under 3 seconds.

Now I know Microsoft stole this feature from OSx, but when I installed Tiger it didn't seem as easy or as quick as it is in Vista.

Is it any better in Leopard? If not, can I configure it with the same functionality?

I don't know if I just imagine it, but Leopard's Spotlight seems *much* faster to me than Tiger's. In fact I don't notice it loading at all. As soon as I type a letter, a list of files pops up. For Photoshop it's enough to type 'ph'. Less than a second, depending on how fast you can type.

I guess that we don't need any launchers like Quicksilver if it stays that way.

I've got a MBP with 2.33 GHz by the way.

They made a simple change that made all the difference. In Tiger, hitting Cmd+Space (activating the Spotlight menu), typing, and hitting enter shows the Results window, but in Leopard, that shows the top hit (almost always the application, if it exists). Spotlight does more than applications, so you might need more than one letter, but I haven't played with it.

But does it *run* the top hit? I know its not a big deal to move my mouse up and click on the file, but I'd like to be able to start it really fast

Maybe if I hit enter twice? Will that work?

What button is the CMD button on a OSX86 installation?

Heh from your first post, it was absolutely obvious you were an OSX86 kid :thumbsup_anim: Moved from PC to OSX without meaning to, and the smoothness, speed and fluidity of the OS is far superior regardless of how {censored} I treat the machine (and in fairness, I put my boxes through hell). To have installed, removed, messed up and experimented with so many apps and files and still have a 30sec usable boot time and search thats blazing? Oh lordy!
