jqs
I used Uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4 r3 or XxX 10.4.10 &PF1 to install my Dell E310. Finally, it worked. I think you can try it. wmarsh
Nice machine Will! I also have Dell E520 and finally have a working physical install. Kalyway is the only distrib that has worked, but I have hopes Macdotnub's upcoming release will be more stable. When installing, leave your BIOS as is (that is in raid mode). Install the SATA/PATA patch that supports ICH8R, and not the "kool patch" labeled for "e520". (That patch is for if you changed BIOS to AHCI, which would entail reinstalling all your other OSs). This links to everything I used. There is a patch for audio and it works. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=475981 Your video is different. I can't help you with that. I haven't yet gotten QE to work. I haven't been able to get onboard lan to work. You can use the tulip.kext if you put a compatible ethernet card in to replace onboard lan. Here is a list of tulip compatible cards: http://pigtail.net/LRP/tulip.html Dual Booting is interesting. I haven't been able to get either grub or chain0 from WinXP methods to work. I put OS X on 2nd hard disk, so I push F12, then tell BIOS to boot off 2nd disk MBR to get into OS X. If you have only 1 disk, you could use OS X as your boot selector -- I can boot WinXP that way (it is also on 2nd disk). But I cannot boot Linux that way. I am hoping to figure out a way to add OS X to grub's menu, which is installed on 1st disk MBR. With Kalyway you need to install it with the pata/sata patch. This gives you ICH8R. If you didn't, you would get above screen. DO NOT install the so called "kool patch" for E520. It gives you ICH8, the setting you would use if you set BIOS to ACHI mode. It also disables the ICH8R patch, which would also give you the above screen. Macdotnub is a better install because you can gt QE working with it. With Macdotnub install both the sata driver and the ICH8R driver; they aren't combined as in Kalyway. Audio works for me too, but I had to put in a compatible ethernet card. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=475981 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/67452-dell-e520-failed-install/#findComment-486762 Share on other sites
