pluggulp
Just installed 10.4.3 on the following Hardware: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...2F964L_SB.29.5D using JAS Patched DVD 8f1111a. Had to resort to install onto a partition via vmware due to problems arising from what seems to be an incompatibility with the DVD drive (Pioneer DVR-108 with hacked regionfree firmware). Also, when trying to boot from the secondary IDE controller, I get the well known "still waiting for root device" error. Attaching the harddrive to the primary IDE controller solves this problem and I can now boot natively. However, I still can't access the drives attached to the secondary controller. I thought not detecting the secondary IDE controller was only an issue during installation, but I seem to be mistaken. Is there a way to fix this ? (I remember having read that the JAS patch includes a patched ATA driver, could that be the cause of the problem ?) The secondary IDE controller worked fine in 10.4.1 (deadmoo version). Your suggestions are appreciated. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6541-getting-secondary-ide-controller-to-work-after-booting/ Share on other sites

pluggulp
Thanks. Yes, from the verbose boot messages it seems as if my system is using a generic ATA driver. The overall performance of the system isn't very good, don't know to which degree harddrive performance is responsible for that, though. Does the fact that OS X boots up using the generic driver indicate that there is no specific driver for my IDE controller (chipset SiS661FX NB, SiS964/964L SB) ? Or can I do something about it by deleting/adding .kexts or modifying device IDs in the .plist file of an existing ATA kext ? pluggulp
Did you want to say "it doesn't pay" or it "does pay" ? Not trying to be pedantic about spelling, but I don't get the meaning of your post. Thanks anyway.
