nuemerik
I have tried multiple times and various guides. I keep receiving ” Chain Boot Error” when trying to boot from the osx partition. -System to be installed on : Compaq laptop AMD turion64 / 2gb ram / radeon 200m video / winxp home -So far I have installed Transmac and converted my iso to an img file (4.5gb) -I renamed my img to ‘tiger-x86-flat.img’ to match the guides -Transmac can read the img file, and I see all the OSX install files. - Installed partiton magic 8.0 (full version) - I clicked “resize/move partion’ from my main/primary partition (70gb) - I changed my ‘free space after’ to 7000mb and click ‘ok’ 7gb of unallocated space now shows up -Partition Magic then requires me to restart to make the new partition - Next I run diskpart - I typed ’select disk 0′ (without the quotes) - I typed in ‘create partition primary size=6660 id=af’ (without quotes) - I click ‘list partition’ (without quotes) and I see 2 partitions. One is new and one is old - Next I run ‘cmd’ - I type in dd if=tiger-x86-flat.img of=\\?\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2 bs=512 skip=63 (Partition 2 is the new 6.7gb partition) - It takes about 25 min and it gives 2 records values for in and out and appears to be done. -I copied the chain0 file to my my root layer of the c drive ( c:\ ) -I finally edited my boot.ini file - Added a new line: C:\chain0=”Mac OS x86″ (including the quotes!) - I click ‘check all boot paths’ and it says they are all ok. I apply and then restart. -I restart and windows give me the choice to boot into xp or to Mac OS x86 Booting into osx give me the chain booting error. But now what? According to the windows disk management utilities, there was no change… All my partitions end up being exactly the same, the same size, the same free space, etc. And its not bootable.. Can anybody help? I used the guide from profit42 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6454-chain-boot-error/ Share on other sites
nuemerik
Thinking this might help, I went into partition magic and set the AF partition to be active, making my winxp partition not. I restarted and received the error " Error loading operating system" I am now reloading winxp Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6454-chain-boot-error/#findComment-40082 Share on other sites
macgirl
That image is not a VMware image that contents bootable code for HD, you renamed the file but that does not do anithing. That image is a ISO (DVD) image, and can be used to burn a DVD or install with VMware. nuemerik
I'm pretty sure the file is an .img file. The original file was an ISO, but I used transmac to convert it to an .img. I only renamed the file so it would match the guides to make it easier for myself. I still have the original ISO file along with the md5 file. How should I go about installing this? Also if it helps I am trying to install 10.4.3 build 8f1111. George Elliott
Renaming a DVD image to tiger-x86-flat.img does not make it into a vmware image, the tiger-x86-flat.img that you are following the instruction for is a special preinstalled image of a harddrive in vmware format. You need to remember the original name of the file you downloaded and apply the appropiate patches to it then burn to DVD and install, if it was an unpatched image of the 8F11111 DVD look for the Jas patch. Or else find the real tiger-x86-flat.img and use the method that you are trying. Dee S. 73
As Macgirl and Gerorge already said that img isnt a harddisk dump like 10.4.1 (to wich the install instructions u got refers to) but is a install disk of 10.4.3 .. That means u just have to burn it on a dvd and reboot the system with the dvd in the drive and boot of the dvd itself, like any other os install...
