BuXb
Hi community. Many of us (if not almost all) who are double booting Windoze & Mac OS x86 on our iHacks are using MacDrive 7.x because it is much more conveniet than Darwin's terminal window. Since I spent the past two hours or so with a strange problem I wanna share the "solution" (well actually work-around) with you guys: Since v. 7, MacDrive can mount non-encrypted and non-sparse Apple DiskImages (.dmg), even compressed ones. They are supposed to be mounted "on-the-fly" to the next available drive letter in Windows, so one can copy the contents out of the dmg into the open file system. However, this was not working for me anymore all of a sudden, with the latest version 7.0.10. The error I got was: Error Copying File or Folder: Cannot copy {filename}: The wrong diskette is in the drive. Insert (Volume Serial Number: ) into drive {filename}. Repaired the install, rebooted, same thing. Uninstalled, installed v. 7.0.9 with which I knew this had still been working, rebooted, same thing. Googled a bit for that error message and found out that other people had that error with applications other than MacDrive along with Windows Defender (Anti Spyware I think). So I went ahead and disabled Kaspersky AntiVirus 7.0.0.125 (latest version), and look-a-there, I could copy out of the mounted dmg again right away! So if you want to copy stuff out of dmgs with MacDrive and it gives you an error message (also possible: "Cannot read from .."), just disable your AV program for the time being. Cheers, Bugs PS1: I told Kaspersky to always allow access to MacDrive.exe and MacDrive Service, but that didn't help PS2: I know it is also possible to access (most) dmgs with Transmac, but Transmac is just not that handy, and MacDrive can open more compressed dmg types Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63652-macdrive-users-please-read-important/ Share on other sites
