macmaniac
You say that "installation goes ok"? and then "hard disk doesn't detect" ? Not sure what you mean. #1. So you boot up the install disk, installer loads, and asks for a HD to install on, but there isn't one? #2. Or you install, install completes, you reboot, and then nothing happens? #3. Or does the install disk not boot? Possible solutions (to the above scenarios): 1. hard disk isn't correctly formatted/partitioned 2. partition isn't set active 3. try different install disk Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63293-asus-p5k-p35-problem/#findComment-448405 Share on other sites
XZX
I boot up the install dvd, installer loads, then in the begining when i use the disk utility (to create partitions), doesnt detect the disk... The disk have to be formatted/partitioned first? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63293-asus-p5k-p35-problem/#findComment-448478 Share on other sites
macmaniac
Use a WIN/DOS disk/utility (partition magic/paragon/hirens boot cd/ultimate boot cd) to format your HDD as Primary FAT32. Then your HD will be detected by Disk Utility. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63293-asus-p5k-p35-problem/#findComment-448485 Share on other sites

XZX
Its Asus PK5. I used Jas 10.4.8 and the 10.4.9 Uphuck 1.4i R3? I already tryed in all 4 channels of Sata's (1, 2, 3 and 4). I tryed Sata configuration with AHCI, RAID and IDE. I used WINXP Install CD to format 100GB to a partition FAT32 and left the rest free. Still dont detect the HDD... help... dnjmarlboro
Uphuck 1.4i r3 wont detect my drives either. (P5K bios 406 AHCI enabled) 1.4i r2 does detect HDDs at Sata1 or Sata2. Since the 1.4i r3 is better (don't update quicktime with r2!) i installed the r3 on an external USB HDD, boot and then i cloned the installation to an bigger internal Sata HDD Marlboro Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63293-asus-p5k-p35-problem/#findComment-448729 Share on other sites
XZX
Hum... I will try that... And which software did you used to clone the HDD's? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63293-asus-p5k-p35-problem/#findComment-448742 Share on other sites
dnjmarlboro
I cloned the drive with Carbon Copy Cloner (formatted the drive first in disk utility with MBR and uncheck erase in ccc). Heard also good response to Clonetool Hatchery. XZX
Hi... 1.4i r2 does not detect this HDD (Western Digital 320GB Sata II) at any channels of Sata's. I already install it in a external USB HDD... now, i have to clone it to my new HDD (Western Digital 320GB Sata II), but how do i boot with this new HDD? dnjmarlboro
So, you can boot osx from your external usb HDD? If yes -> does the drive utility in OSX detect the SATA HDD (if not, then you've got no chance). If OSX detects the Sata HDD, clone from the USB HDD (don't forget the mbr on Sata HDD) and just change the boot settings in Bios or hit F8 shortly after power up your machine and select the Sata HDD from menu. XZX
I install it directelly on the external USB HDD, but with the new HDD there (the SATA one)... Then i pick the HDD and connect it in Sata Channel... but dont boots up... Sorry the question (im newbie... hehe), but what do you meen with "mbr"? dnjmarlboro
MBR: Master Boot Record When you installed OSX on the external USB HDD -> did you format/partitioning it with the disk utility during setup? While partitioning the HDD in the disk utility you have to choose "with mbr", else OSX cant boot. BTW: do you tried to boot directly from the USB HDD? (No problem for P5K - hit F8 and select your USB HDD). XZX
I format the HDD with 2 partitions during the setup in disk utility, but i forgot the MBR... if it wasn't activated by default, was it? I don't know... Now, how do i should config the bios to boot? IDE, RAID or AHCI? And the Sata channel? 1, 2, 3 or 4? And, yes, in the end of instalation, he boots from the USB HDD...
