jsmithers
Hi guys, and thanks for a great board! I am planning to build myself a FCP hackPro, and this forum has been a real saviour in the process of selecting parts. I think I am going for these parts Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (because of compressor and other heavy rendering) Intel D975XBX2 (Bad Axe 2) (out-of-the-box working?) 2x Kingston ValueRAM DDR2-667 2GB (4x1024) MSI GeForce 7950 GT 512 MB Silent (best supported card? and silent) 3x Samsung SpinPoint T133S 400 GB (silent) 1x Western Digital Raptor 73,4 GB (fast) I am thinking about setting up the raptor as OSX bootdisk and 2x 400 in Raid 0. I really want xp for some offhours gaming and progtesting, so I am planning to add that as well to the 4th drive. Questions 1. How do one best enable file sharing between the osx/win enviroments. I really want to avoid FAT 2. How does my setup look? 3. I would like DX10 enabled gaming, any cards who will work in both systems yet? And this card will support native full HD for my 24" Dell (1900x something?) Ofcourse, dual screen is needed,) 4. I would really like to give the OSX installation priority. Is there a guide for installing 10.4.10 first, and then xp, or is this no point? Which installation procedure is recommended, I sense some difference between upchuck, JaS, kolkal? 5. Can I get Leopard to run on this baby? Thanks again for a great board. Im gonna be saving a lot of money! BJMoose
1. NTFS-3G (found on uphuck's v1.4iR3) 2. System looks like a killer. 3. Not a gamer here...don't know 4. All you need to do is use software like gparted or partition magic or acronis disk manager to set the boot flag for your OSX partition. It will then boot first. Set the timeout in plist to something like 5 seconds to allow time to choose OSX or Windows 5. I haven't done it yet, but if any Hackintosh will run it, yours will. Do some checking in one of these subforums. Someone gave a step-by-step of how to do it. Note that with your nVidia 512mb gfx card, you will have to flash its rom to get it to work properly with OSX86. Necessary step for all nVidia cards over 256mb. jsmithers
THanks, great response. 1. How well do NTFS-3G perform? Is HFS+ still better on performance? (im doing video editing). 5. What does this flashing mean? Will it loose performance in any way, making it pointless going for the 512? Has anyone (with a lot of money) tried to have 2 gfxcards, one for windows and one for osx, only beeing enabled in one system, so to speak. Thanks guys! Hara-Tiri
1. NTFS-3G on Mac OS AND HFSExplorer on Windows, so the file transfer is 2 way. HFS+ is quite comparable to NTFS performance wise. 2. It should run very well, should be quite compatible and go through video editing like a hot knife through butter. 3. As of this writing, no DX10 GPU is supported. People are working on it. 5. This is how you flash. Performance-wise, I don't think there is any loss in terms of graphics capabilities. And no, I don't think anyone has tried using a separate GPU for each OS. And, although I don't think it would be *impossible*, I seriously doubt it would be worth the trouble. Good luck!!!
