bonestonne
ok, i do plan [either later tonight or tomorrow] to install OS X on VMWare to test this, but i want to know if anyone can give me tips or answers regarding updating via software update. i want to start off by saying that this is my second install of OSx86 on this computer, because i did poor troubleshooting. i read around about using apples software update, and any issues regarding the 10.4.10 update, and it seems as though my issue with it [booted up, but froze in before the logon screen] is actually common with even apple computers. what i read is that some people would boot into safe mode after updating to solve some problems with it, and i suppose that may have worked, but i want to see if anyone here can help me. i'm well aware that during the update there should be no other apps running, nor should i be doing anything. what i plan to do is update iTunes, and Java, and other apps through standalone updaters [not software update, and just leave the Mac OS X 10.4.10 update]. has anyone tried to do this, or is it just something stupid to do? i split my drive into 4 different partitions, so reinstalling is just done through VMWare Workstation to the 74.5GB partition i made for OS X. after installing, i just need to install the ethernet driver, and audio driver, reboot, and then i'm set to begin setting everything up. as my library of music is near 40 gigs [actually 60, but i only keep 36 on a playlist, sometimes less], i don't really want to screw this up. i know there are many topics on updating, but they don't really seem to really target making it work, they're all about not doing it. i'm fine with staying at 10.4.8, but if i can update, that would be shibby, if i can ever get my M-Audio soundcard working i'd be ecstatic...[its $130, and i hate not being able to use it]. thanks in advanced, hopefully people will see where i'm going with this [i'm not trying to be the noob, i'm just a sound tech who wants to try using their goodies.
