I installed OSX a year or two ago, when the newest was 10.4.3. I decided to give it a try again on my laptop. I just finished installing OS X 10.4.8 JaS Intel version. The installation went very smoothly. The computer restarted after installation, the gray Apple screen comes up, the little pin wheel turns for 20 seconds or so, and then it goes on to act like it is going to boot up. Then the screen turns off, turns on but is still black, turns off again, then tuns back on but is still black. I can hear the computer reading from the harddrive and I know the computer isn't hung, but there is no display. Any solutions? Thanks InsanelyMac people!

read on this.

if youre successful, and you reached the osx desktop, searh the forum on how to enable acceleration for you video card.

search diabolik natit or neo natit

when you see darwin loading.. hit enter or f8..

you will be prompted at boot:

so you have to type after the boot:

it would appear like this below

boot: -v -s

then hit enter.

youll see some scrolling text, and will stop soon, and youll see some of the following:

/sbin/mount -uw/

Alright, I was able to get the boot prompt to come up. I followed the instructions up to rm -rf nvdaresman.kext. That did not work, so I went on further to delete the other 5 kext file. That still does not work. The screen freezes up on the gray Apple screen and then eventually the message comes up that instructs me to hold down the power button until the system turns off. Do you have any other advice that I might be able to use that could get this running? Thanks!

When I start in the -v mode, there are two messages that relate to two of the .kext files I deleted.

kextd[25]: cannot resolve dependencies for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/NVDANV40Hal.kext

kextd[25]: cannot resolve dependencies for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/Geforce.kext

Other than that, I cannot see any other error messages.

The last line says mentions "Login Window Application Started" so I guess that's an alright sign.

how did you remove the nvdaresman.kext?

did you enter the command like this one below:

rm -rf /system/library/extensions/nvdaresman.kext

and furthermore, you can also do it like this

cd /system/library/extensions/ ...press enter

rm -rf nvdaresman.kext ...hit enter

if still you cant boot up to the desktop after deleting all those mentioned kexts, insert your dvd and launch disk utiltiy, do a disk repair permission.
