I am trying to run MacOSX with a single core p4 processor. However, I get this "stuttering" effect when I do, and when I check my CPU stats, it is showing like a dual core with only a single core working. How can I get around this and get this thing to work properly? Any ideas or suggestions would be very welcome.

BTW, it's a LGA 775 socket, and everything else works, including sound and LAN, but the CPU stutters. I searched for this but didn't find anything.

Thanks.

Well, I am running a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz CPU, on a ASRock MB, socket LGA 775, Dual Channel DDR2 RAM, 2BG, PCI-e 16x video card, gigabit LAN, I believe the OSX version is OSX 10.4.8.

I am now having problems connecting to the Internet, as well, and the network config wizard won't let me select Cable modem as my connection, only Dial Up. I am very new to all this, so I am not quite sure what to tell you.

I also can't burn CDs, it just says Preparing Data, and doesn't go anywhere.

The mouse cursor moves really slow across the screen, and speeds up every now and then. You get the impression like it's "catching' on the screen and you have to pull really hard on it. Very hard to do anything with it. I am writing this from my cousin's computer. Help, please :)

OK, some of the info I previously stated was wrong. My Mobo is ASRock ConRoe945PL-GLAN. Intel 945 PL chipset, LGA 775 socket.

OSX is treating my CPU as if it were a dual core, and I am getting serious performance issues as a result of this. Also, the OS si not working properly. How do I make the OS see my CPU as a single core, which is what it is? I hope this clarifies things.

Kernel? What's a kernel? I keep hearing the term but I have no clue what it is. Thanks for the tip, I will look into this. I have uninstalled OSX and replaced it with XP just so I can use my computer for the time being, but will go back and re try this whole thing again. Thanks for the help, I will post the results of this experiment as soon as it's over.
