Hi all,

Long time listener...very nearly first time poster here.

I just built my own first.hack and love it:

Gigabyte 945-GZM

e4300

PNY 2GB PC 5300 667

7200.10 320GB Seagate

Pioneer DVR-110D

eVGA 7100GS

Airlink 101 802.11g PCI adapter

JaS 10.4.9

Everything works great on the machine itself, really couldn't be happier (and if I'm ever not, I'm dual-booting with Ubuntu Feisty). However, I share a monitor, speakers, and a USB mouse/keyboard with my Windows XP Pro machine (which is now only for games and the occasional .doc). The KVM is a Trendnet 209K.

So the problem is when I switch from Mac to PC, about 90% of the time the keyboard and mouse won't be recognized and a box will appear saying a USB device has malfunctioned. At first I thought I had a bad switch, so I tried different cables, switching the outputs between computers, etc. Nothing really worked that I could tell. However, the KVM works fine between Ubuntu and XP, leading me to believe now that it is a problem with my OSx86 somehow. The USB apparently doesn't somehow transfer (a work-around I found was unplugging and then replugging the USB cable on the XP machine, but that doesn't seem like a good fix since I bought the switch not to have to do that at all).

Maybe I'm imaging this, but it seemed to work fine before I started doing updates (I haven't done June security, Airport Extreme, or 10.4.10 [obviously]). Also, I installed a printer driver for a Samsung 2010 I which is now connected via USB and I sync a 4G iPod. Any chance my USB kext(s) are somehow bad or need to be repaired? What would cause my Hack to not want to give up USB? Should I try uninstalling the printer driver? (Nothing changes when the printer is powered off though.)

And a big thanks to everyone here; I've been following this site for a looong time and am excited to actually be trying this stuff out!

Also, my next lappy will definitely be a MacBook dual-booting Ubuntu. Who says OSx86 is bad for Apple's sales?

Update:

Problem found: I uninstalled PeerGuardian and things seem to be working fine. I couldn't even begin to guess as to how PeerGuardian was screwing up my USB ports, but I was noticing that it would eat up available memory and seem to take a heavy tax on my processor (~30-40%).

Guess that's the cost...err...fun of running a Hackintosh :yoji:
