Hi all. I just installed this wonderful DVD and *almost* everything worked out of the box, it's been the easier installation so far. However, I just noticed that PPC applications can't be used. No matter what do I do, they simply won't run. I did a careful reading in the info page before downloading the disc, and:

"Uphuck v1.4i 10.4.9 Installation DVD

Intel_only binaries and trimmed almost all ppc code from the Base System.

It includes eskurza’s Intel_only Extensions. v1.4i is 1.4gb in size and is a convenient way of installing OSX on generic PCs."

According to this the 10.4.9ix is the version that trimmed down rosseta support:

"Uphuck v1.4ix 10.4.9 Installation DVD

v1.4ix is designed for Intel Architectures only. In this release, we integrated our Intel_only binaries and trimmed all ppc code from the system. This Extreme Version of our DVD contains only intel coding. PPC based applications will not function due to Rosetta being removed completely. All Frameworks are converted into Intel_only state. v1.4ix is highly optimized for Intel machines. With this version, you will experience the fastest and most responsive OSX install."

As I understand, my version (10.4.9i) should work just fine with rosseta apps. Being the reality different, my question is, there is some way to add or "inject" rosetta support to the system, prefereably without reinstaling? Thanks a lot for your advice.

Best regards.

i had been wondering about this... if they've stripped ppc code from most of the system, what about ppc apps which rely on that code?

if its some halfway-house solution whereby ppc apps will work *unless they call specific library functions*, then i for one will be sticking with ye olde method (any old JaS disc + apple's combo updater + patched AppleSMBIOS + kernel).

also, i saw a screenshot somewhere with the apple logo and text replaced in the 'about this mac' with some ugly 'Mac OS X86' thing - i really hope thats not installed by default by this disc...

well, i cant say for sure, since ive never installed it. i just meant that IF some ppc apps wont run, i'll be sticking with the older discs.i think the i and ix discs are a great idea tho, for when you want to run totally legacy free and light. i have a mac os x server box which might be a candidate for ix...

aha: from uphuck's torrent notes on the green demon site:"Rosetta has not been removed in this version, it will be removed on upcoming 1.4ix version. As the feedbacks i got, I recovered the issues and will release v1.4i2 soon.. "

Proteo, my understanding was the same as yours. After reading uphuck's website, I thought 1.4i still supported Rosetta. The install was really the easiest and best working yet for my system, but I can't get MS Office to work for the life of me. Now to be honest, I didn't install office until after I upgraded with KoolKal's 10.4.10, so that might be the culprit. But others on the 1.4i thread seem to be getting it to work. Tomorrow I may try a re-install and then install office before anything else. I'd be interested in other reports on Office.
