Well, after formatting both partitions on accident, I figured enough was enough. I took my hard drive out and did a native install on my hard drive by using my girlfriend's Dell laptop with my hard drive in it.

I had no problem with "Still Waiting for Root Device" issues and it installed fast and easy. When I booted up, it didn't recognize the keyboard or mouse (usb or ps2 with kexts). Regardless, I threw it back in my HP ze2000z and what did came on the screen when it booted off the hard drive?

STILL WAITING FOR ROOT DEVICE

I have concluded that it is a hardware issue and that can't be solved with the weak ass bios that is provided, hp's knowledge base, or my trolling around this message board endlessly.

Maybe a new build will come out and I'll give it another whirl. Or maybe I'll just wait until it comes out for real and people with hack it so much that it will run on even my system. Maybe.

I've also noticed that 10.4.1 has broken driver support - i.e USB and firewire don't work for external volumes, many cd drivers are not supported, etc. However the installer disc doesn't have these problems - hence can install.

You haven't mentioned what build you are trying, is it 10.4.1 or 10.4.3? 10.4.3 fixed a lot of little things like that for me.

Sorry, I installed 10.4.3 8f1111 with Wesley's patch. My system has a Turion 64 and the chipset is an ATI RS482. I've been digging around for a way to disable DMA but the only thread that comes up when I search is this one. I suppose I can look around more.

Yeah, I haven't come up with anything. I think I'm just going to have to wait awhile and let install lay dormant on my harddrive until someone comes up with something.

I'm seeing this problem more and more on this forum. Hopefully, someone comes up with a solution.
