So I've been messing with this stuff going on two months now with zero success anywhere. I've taken my installation disk with 10.4.8 patches for Intel/via chipsets and tried it in literally 60 different computers now, none get past this message:

"Loading HFS+ file: [/system/Library/Extentions.mkext] from 4230450"

then the machine reboots immediatly.

Current board is an Asus P4G533-LA with an Intel Celeron 1.8 and 512mb ram. The board has an Intel Chipset with built in video. Have tried an external generic PCI video, different memory, nothing works. Drives are both IDE based ATA100 for the WD HDD and ATA33 for the DVDROM. All hardware 100% known working.

Where do I go from here? Have spent several hours today alone searching this board for anyone that might've had the same problem with ZERO luck.

Try setting your drive as primary master. My drive on my laptop is set a third slave but I can't change it(or atleast I couldn't from the BIOS), and my hard drive is set as primary master.

Edit: Forgot to mention, but I just tried the DVD on an old desktop, it works fine, except everything is all pixelated and gray and unreadable so I couldn't complete the install.

The Hard drive is set to cable select, is that the drive you're suggesting I try on primary master? Or do the master on the optical drive too?

I'm having a hard time thinking its an optical problem, I'm almost totally convinced that its a bad copy but I have no way to test it to be sure. Could reburn the ISO again but it'll likely fail too.

I'm on my way back to work for a bit but I did manage to locate an uphuck package 10.4.9 v1.3 that has a ton of good comments, and I've read a lot of success with his packs so I'm gonna give that a shot. Will tinker more when I get back home.

So you're suggesting swapping IDE ports for the HDD and optical drive? Its worth a shot.

New update!

Finished downloading the uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3 package and it boots!!! However, when the GUI comes up its in a low quality and impossible to read anything shown. The board I've chosen for this (intel chipsets and Intel chip) that it boots on doesn't have an AGP graphics port on it since its an OEM board out of a Compaq box.. Is there any way to change the video mode from the boot prompt?

Okay I'll try that, but I have another update...

Tried installation on my laptop which is a medium-high end notebook:

Toshiba Satellite A45-S250:

Pentium 4 2.8ghz

1024mb of Crucial PC3200 ram

Intel 82852 Video chipset

Samsung 80gb hdd

Boots into the installation GUI okay, I go to select destination device and there is nothing to choose. Noticed in the booting it said something about failed to mount /dev/disk01s or something like that. Haven't done any kind of crazy partitioning yet, so I'm not sure about that. Gonna see if I can find a black 20gigger to toss in and see what'll happen.

This is kind of fun and frustrating all the same time.

I didn't really notice but that first install I selected EVERYTHING to install.. This time I went in and installed SSE2 only for the Kernel, with the Intel package. Now it starts to boot after install then gives a HUGE error and halts the system.

Heres my question, I can't really seem to find for sure what Kernel package I should install?

I have a Toshiba Laptop that I have posted a VERY lengthy tutorial on how to install OSX on. Search on my username if interested, it will have a lot of pertinent information because Toshiba laptops all have similar designs (which you need to be aware of).

Also, post the specifications of your system (CPU, memory, chipsets like sound and ethernet/wireless, graphics, etc). At that point, using Uphuck 1.3 OSX 10.4.9, I can clearly tell you what you need to choose to install OSX. It will likely work, but it takes some time to get a useful functioning system.

Good luck!
