GiggityGoo
Hey everyone, I've been reading up about OSx86 and I'm really looking forward to trying it out. I love Macs to bits and I can't wait to start setting this up, but first I've got some questions. I know a fair bit about dual boots and stuff, I've had numbers boots...Vista/Ubuntu/XP etc etc - But I've never done it with this before. My current setup is as follows: Dell M1710 Laptop - Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 - nVidia 512mb GeForce Go 7900 GTX - 1 Gig of ram - Windows Vista Ultimate (Fresh install) - 100gb hard drive. So I'm going to setup the drive to have 2 separate partitions. I'll probably make the OSX one about 20Gigs. I'm just after some pointers really or anything I need to watch out for. I'm currently 'getting hold of' uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3 - I've read on the Wiki about only 1 core being supported (that was for a previous version 10.4.8 I think) - Does that apply to this version? My CPU supports SSE 3 - I've seen lots about SSE 2 but I don't really know what this means. Updating Kernel - Ok, I know what kernel is and what it does but I've got no idea how to install it, update it or what effect it might have on my computer/installation. -Just some of my concerns. So pretty much I'm after some pointers for a newbie and any problems I might face, specifically to my system (Dell M1710). I've been looking at some installation guides: http://coolblog.profit42.com/2007/06/25/os...-boot-intelamd/ They seem too straight forward though! Is it really that easy? Thanks for reading and I hope you can point me in the right direction. Guest Ramm
First, you should pay another visit to the wiki to check your hardware. --If your CPU supports SSE3, that is very good. SSE- are the instructions that "tell" the processor what to do. --You shouldn't need to update your kernel.
