Hey ladies and gents,

I have been having some serious problems getting my video card to behave like it should with OSX86. I have searched around these forums for a while looking for an answer, tried 2 seperate things, both of which have led to kernel panics.

Sweet.

Anywho, I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to make my video card change resolutions / display correctly / generally do anything that a good video card should. QE/CI would be wonderful as well.

I am not sure even where to start with which kexts, and which ones to delete, or which ones to download. Any help would be great.

Hardware Specs: T60p

Video Card: ATI Firegl v5250 Device ID: 71d4 Vendor ID: 1002

JaS 1.4.8 Intel SSE3

This is my first OSX86 build, so, please be nice. :P

Thanks in advance.

I can use onboard graphics - it puts me into 1024 x 768, with no other options for resolution.

As far as hardware specs:

Product: ThinkPad T60p 8744-C9U

Operating system: Windows XP

Original description: T7200(2GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI FireGL V5250, CDRW/DVDRW, 802.11n wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Dual Booting XP and OSX.

Let me know if you need more info.

P.S. - Once I get the kernel panic (grey screen directly after OS boot) is there any way for me to edit the files that I messed up, or do I just have to reformat the whole thing like I have been?

I had too some issues at first boot after a successful install, I have a T60p (2007-W7L), here is what I did:

Disable the dual-cpu from the BIOS (after all you only have one cpu with two cores)

Install only base and Intel support from the JaS 10.4.8 DVD

Search this board for the 'patches' for the video card

After the first couple of boot are successful re-enable the dual-cpu support in the BIOS

Now I have a T60p running 10.4.10 with 1600x1200 video support, sound and wireless working perfectly

Let me know if you need some more detailed help.

First of all, thanks for the reply. This place is so helpful.

I will try installing it the way you specified. This will be my 5th time in 2 days reformatting the partition and reinstalling. :(

I am not sure how to apply these patches, that was the problem. And, I could not locate a Firegl v5250 patch. So, if you could link me to a place that gives me a better description as far as what in the world to do with these patches, or which patch to choose, that would be great.

Perhaps explain your config? It seems similar to what I have.

Oh, and if you could link to me the tutorial for enabling wireless / explain how you got wireless to work (assuming you have the 3945 Intel) that would be a huge help.

Thanks much.

UPDATE: OSX Installed with base options, GUI working. Video support and wireless is not.

Now I have a T60p running 10.4.10 with 1600x1200 video support, sound and wireless working perfectly

I'd love to know how you got the wireless to work - it's the one big deal breaker for me as far as OS X on a T60p is concerned.

I'm able to see wireless networks OK, but whenever I try and connect to one I get a kernel panic and have to restart the laptop.

I know it works, because I installed OS X on a co-worker's T60p whose networking card had the same vendor and device ID (Atheros, not intel) as my own, but mine won't work completely. His works fine though.

I have a Lenovo T60p, 2007-CQ8 - any help in getting this working would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, got the Atheros AR5211 (Vendor: 168C, Device ID: 1014). Downloaded the IO802xxxx from the 10.4.5 release (as indicated in another post) and added the Device ID to the AirportAtheros5424.kext, reboot and is working fine, I have tried open and WPE

On the Video a followed the instructions from this post --> http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t...6f122e3a3e0201b modifying to my video card (Vendor: 71C4, Device ID: 1002 - FireGL5250)

Hope this help, let me know if you need any other help.

Amazing.

Video worked perfectly. Next hurdle: wireless. Hopefully I will be posting my next post from OSX instead of Windoze.

Quick question: where do I get the IO802xxxx from? Sorry if that's a silly question, but this is still very new to me. Thanks in advance.

I've tried all of these steps, but I never get another network interface to appear in NetworkInterfaces.plist. I have two in there, en0 (for the wired gigabit ethernet) and wc1 (which appeared after I installed my VPN software).

How do I get my wireless card to appear in NetworkInterfaces.plist?

What is the Vendor and Device ID in your card??

I get four interfaces:

en0: for the Docking Station ethernet

wc1: for the on-board ethernet

en2: for the Airport

bluetooth: for bluetooth

Did not change anything on the NetworkInterfaces.plist

Are you with the same company I am??

What is the Vendor and Device ID in your card??
The vendor id is 168C, device id is 1014.

I know the card is configured correctly as OS X sees it as an airport card and is able to pick up wireless networks. The problem is whenever I try and connect to a network, I get a kernel panic and the screen goes grey with a 'you must restart your computer' message.

Are you with the same company I am??
Turns out that we are! I just looked you up on w3.
  • 3 weeks later...

Since my Windows partition decided it wouldn't let me log in any more, I decided to wipe the HDD clean and start over.

This time I have no kernel panic, my Atheros card is being picked up as an Airport card and is working flawlessly. No idea why it wouldn't work with my previous installation, but now I have no problems with it. I think it may have had to do with the virtual network adapter that the VPN installed as this time round I installed the VPN after changing the AirportAtheros5424.kext (I did not pull the kext from 10.4.5, I'm still using the 10.4.8 kext).

My next challenge - upgrading to 10.4.10. I tried that by going with the Koolkal 10.4.10 combo update but no joy there (lots of errors about missing kexts and an unbootable system). Should I be going to 10.4.9 first then 10.4.10 instead of going directly to 10.4.10?
