itsn
I couldn't find a reason for this, so I'm seeing if anyone else has run into this issue: I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 3400+, and OSX thinks it's only 800MHz, but it can do 2.2GHz... Any ideas? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5587-amd-64-3200-cpu-speed-issue/ Share on other sites

Axis
Really odd, which version of Mac OS? Don't know if darwin/mac os supports cool 'n quiet, but you can turn it off in your bios.. Your CPU will then always run at full speed.. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5587-amd-64-3200-cpu-speed-issue/#findComment-35530 Share on other sites
itsn
OSX 1025. Shrug, patched, though. Uhm, updating to 1099....Well, trying to. I ran the DVD in verbose mode, and it panics. panic(cpu 0 caller 0xC0196F60): unexpected kernel trap, registers: eax hex ... ... edit: I don't know what cool 'n quiet is I'm guessing freq. scaling, but nothing like that is in my BIOS. And, I don't think it's freq. scaling--since I could change that in the energy options, or should be able to. Yes you can enable/disable Cool'n Quiet in BIOS, but if you don't have a driver or the OS does not has support is not used. I have enabled that option in BIOS so in Windows XP (with driver installed and specific scheme in Power Options Control Panel) the speed of the CPU is variable, but in Mac OS X the speed is ever the same (2.2 GHz in my case) although it does not go to the temps like Cool'n Quiet is off on XP in iddle, do not know why?
