Hey folks,

im a linux guy trying to get osx86 properly working. i just installed it to hardisk using the JaS 10.4.8 DVD-Image. I'm using GRUB as a boot manager to choose from Linux/OSX on every boot. The problem i'm currently facing is: Booting from harddisk using the following grub-config-entry leads to a system saying "...loading darwin kernel...", then showing the apple icon, starting to let the loading-circle spin, and finally (it seems like) kernel-oooopsing... :/ i keep getting a blank screen, and not even the hardware-features of my machine (notebook, samsung x20) seem to work anymore, i mean like *real* freezing..

interesting, when i boot from dvd and start with "rd=disk0s2", it works, some kext's fail to load, but the system boots up... i grepped through the log files in /var/log, especially system.log and found the following:

 Apr 4 18:14:53 localhost mDNSResponder-108.2 (Aug 25 2006 14: 50:48)[52]: starting

so its hanging with the Launched, as far as i can see.

when i boot from dvd, there comes this:

 Apr 4 19:28:39 localhost mDNSResponder-108.2 (Aug 25 2006 14: 50:48)[39]: starting
Apr 4 19:28:39 localhost memberd[46]: memberd starting up

Apr 4 19:28:44 localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started

it seems like it's only crashing when it tries to load the loginwindow... i'm really out of clue and not a mac pro. any advice is greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance

Try installing the 10.4.4 Login Window, an extra in the JaS 10.4.8 installer. May help.

Hi there,

try booting from your install dvd, open up a terminal, mount your disk. Then goto

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and edit com.apple.Boot.plist

You can add:

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>10</string>

or simply press F8 during startup. Optional parameters are -v for verbose mode, -x for safe mode or -s for single user mode.

Mainly your problem should be the login manager. You can simply copy the login manager files from JaS 10.4.6. It works perfectly to me.

I can send yo the files and instructions by mail.

Regards,

Paul Breitner
