Manix
I'm attempting to install the JaS 10.4.6 DVD natively on an old Dell Dimension 8100, P4 "Williamette" that supports SSE2. I pop the DVD in, and every time, the install gets to the blue screen with a cursor. The cursor switches to the spinning ball, and then back to the cursor a couple of times, then the install crashes with the error below when I'm in verbose mode (-v), and then immediately shuts down. I attempted the VMware method, and it yields the same result, same error, same shutdown. Anyone have any ideas? I've been searching the forums for any clues I could find, the closest thing being an issue with PAE, which is enabled when I pop the DVD in and boot from it, so that's not a problem. And apparently, there's an issue with the Dimension 8100, but I haven't seen too much info about it... Manix
Quick update: I'm having success installing it through VMware on another computer, so I know it isn't the DVD or the ISO. This give anyone any ideas? And apparently, there's an issue with the Dimension 8100, but I haven't seen too much info about it... I have this exact computer, and I can tell you what the problem is. The chipset on the motherboard is too old. The only OS X Intel release that supports it is 10.4.1. So, what this means is you can use the deadmoo image or you can find a copy of the 10.4.1 Developer's Release and install it. Anything more recent than that will not work. I've personally tested 10.4.3 (8f1099 and 8f1111), 10.4.4 (Myzar), and 10.4.8 (JaS). Unfortunately, this means most of the software written for OS X will not work on this computer since they require a "released" version of OS X (10.4.4 or newer).
