grav
I have a USB 2.0 hub which is powered by a 6v, 2.1 A adapter. I have bought a microSD adapter which gives me a headache. When I connect it to the USB hub, I get a message in OS X that the device requires too much power. I don't get it since the hub is powered, and according to System Profiler it can deliver 500 mA, and the bloody card reader only requires 100 mA (again according to System Profiler). The problem exists even if the card reader is the only thing connected to the hub. I have had no probs with my bluetooth adapter which also requires 100 mA. The card reader works if connected directly to the usb port on the computer, but that's no good. I have tried the setup on two different macs, and it's the same thing ... Any suggestions? *** edit *** Well, actually the card reader eats up 500 mA when connected directly to the computer, according to System Profiler. Might be the problem. Damn ... is it possible to get the USB hub to provide more than 500 mA? I mean, it has a 2.1 A power adapter.
