montecellon
Hi! I am a newbie and read some stuff that you need to have SSE3 for OSx to work out of the box. So right now I am looking for a notebook. I wanted to buy a gateway with Intel components - Gateway MT6821 - but (sad but true) I figured out that you can't get any win-XP sound drivers for the machine (would mean no sound in WinXP) - because as first thing I wanna get rid of Vista ;o) So today I found another one with a Amd turion x2 Tl-52 processor, but after reading some posts I am not sure any more if it will even work with an amd. Specs are: Gateway MT6456 AMD Turion X2 TL-52 ATI XPRESS 1150 Graphics card PATA HDD (160GB) 1GB RAM wS('1','15')Built-in Marvell TopDog 802.11n So any ideas how this would work? Thanks for help!!! I got this exact model. It's a couple weeks after your post and the sale at Best Buy is over, but I'll tell you what I know: I'm dual booting Vista and XP (and hopefully OSX as soon as possible!). I've found XP drivers for everything (haven't looked for flash reader drivers yet), including the Sigmatel sound card, but I haven't yet gotten a hold of the wifi driver. Hopefully I'll get an answer from Marvell tomorrow. I'm harboring some hope, for both XP and for OSX, since it seems like Netgear is basing new products on TopDog. The next thing I'm doing with my computer is trying to install OSX, so I hope for both of our sakes that the Marvell TopDog issue is easier than it looks at first. Hope that helps. montecellon
Hi! I finally got this computer also at bestbuy (was a great deal). And you know what Osx is up and running (at least the core system) - just writing you from osx . Marvell ethernet works with a little bit of work so far (sound should work - haven't tried yet!). Hez you talked about XP and I really want to go back to XP too. Heard about the sound driver issues. So please could you tell me how you got the sound card to work (or what driver you have been using)? ANd did I understand it the right way that the WIFI in XP is not working for you? THanks for help! Edit: Sound is working with the HDA patcher right now (and using -legacy boot mode), but not the microphone!!!
