acduke
Hi all, I looked through the forums the best I could, and couldn't find an answer to this problem. So I decided to register and get some real help! I appreciate any input!! When I insert my dvd (JaS 10.4.8.Intel.SSE3 RE-RELEASE_REPACKAGE Mac OS X86) with the bios set to boot from dvd, the gray apple logo screen comes up, the circle does its spins for 5-10 minutes, it sounds like lots of activity with the dvd loading files, and then the laptop shuts itself off unexpectedly not even allowing me to get to the next stage to get to all the menus and create the file system or customize. I'm pretty new to this whole thing, but I've read most the guides on the OSX86 Project wiki, profit42 and dilnalomo. My installation was a bit different though because I already have Vista and XP dual boot. I installed the Acronis selector and used Partition Magic to create an 11gb partition, FAT32, primary and set it to active. I'm installing on an Inspiron 9300, 2ghz Pentium M, 1gb ddr533, and Geforce Go 6800. I burned the disc at 8x in Nero, which was half the rated speed for the media. Should I have burned it slower? I can't test again until I finish downloading a slightly different JaS 10.4.8 install from the bay which may take a day. I had to delete the original ISO to make room for the new partition. Blah!! I can hardly wait to get OSX running on my lappy. I'm fed up with Windows, especially after Vista was such a disappointment. As a side note, I have a friend who works for Apple and was flown out to Cupertino for two weeks and just got back the other day. Said Steve Jobs walked right past him, said he smelled like genius and money, lol. Anyway...said he saw some things around the campus, couldn't really go into detail, but he told me "Duke, don't buy a Mac until this summer, you won't regret it". I tried to pry some info out of him about LED LCD's, hybrid flash hard drives, and Core 2 Ocho, but he wouldn't confirm nor deny, just told me to hold out until the summer and buy it from him to get a steep discount. We'll see! Until then, hopefully I can get this POS Dell to be a pretender. I appreciate all your help! - el duque Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45713-jas-1048-install-problems/ Share on other sites
