USB stopped working com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily: No valid version of this dependency can be found

Hi, I'm not an extreme Mac tech geek but I see other discussions on this board that seem similar to my problem -- but not quite.

Today suddenly no mouse or keyboard works on my PowerMac G5. It only has USB connections so trying an "old" mouse or keyboard is not possible. I have tried known good mouse and keyboard from another machine, as well as the ones that were working fine yesterday. Plus, the old ones work if I boot from OSX install DVD, so the hardware is fine, it is a software problem. When I try an optical mouse the light inside doesn't even come on.

Tough to do much with no mouse or keyboard, but FORTUNATELY I am running OSXvnc so I can get in from another computer. No, that's not the problem, have been using OSXvnc for years.

In the System Profiler under Extensions I found several things that look like problems. AppleUSBEHCI says "Dependencies: Incomplete, Dependency Errors: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily: No valid version of this dependency can be found Integrity: Kext is modified". I don't know what any of those things mean but it sounds like my USB software is hosed. How to get it back?

IOUSBFamily says "Dependencies: Satisfied" but "Integrity: Kext is modified". I do have tape backups so maybe I could restore it if I knew what file(s) to look for. Or is there somewhere to get a fresh clean copy?

Thank you.

For anyone else who might have a similar problem, here's what I did. I ran out of time to keep looking for a solution, so I just reinstalled MacOSX 10.4.3 from install DVD using "Options, Archive and Install" so it wouldn't wipe out applications, user files etc. Then apply all Software Updates and check all settings that I normally make when setting up a Mac.

The mouse and keyboard work now, proving it was not a hardware problem. Still don't know how the software got corrupted however.
