Hi,

Like the title says, after a complete install of jas 10.4.8 with PPF1 my system refuses to work past the grey apple screen. If i do -v the error message is as follows: "Could not make a display match".

I think this as something to do with my X300 graphics card. I have the C008 from the italian post but i don't know how to install them if i cannot get past the grey apple i cannot open the terminal. Booting in safe mode the same thing appens, so how do i install he ATI X300 driver without accessing terminal, is it possible?

Found the solution to this. Was written in another post by a mod, IIRC.

When booting press F8 then type: -s

This should bring you to the command line as root. There type this:

mount -uw /

cd /System/Library/Extensions

mkdir ati_backup

mv ATI* ati_backup/

cd /System/Library

rm -rf Extensions.mkext

rm -rf Extensions.kextcache

reboot

This solved my problem and for my first install i have everything working including sound and internet.

Thank you for all who helped me installing this.

jleal, did you type this after you installed the C008 drivers? If so how did you install them.

If what you typed is actually the method for installing them before osx boots, where are the drivers coming from - your install dvd?

I guess I'm asking if you modified your dvd image to include the C008 drivers and did a completely new install after?

I'm having a very similar problem to yours, and tried typing what you typed - now instead of my monitor going to sleep after the grey screen with the apple logo, it just hangs on the grey screen and the spinning thing stops spinning.

My -v boot up displays a lot of "Could not make a display match" messages as well, and I have an X700 Pro card.

redtom, i did not install the C008 drivers, my ATI X300 is working but without those drivers. I've been trying to install them now because i don't have QE and CI and only one option in screen resolution but without success.

I'm going to do a fresh install now because i'm not sure if i choosed the option to include the ATI drivers at the install process. I will try now without that option and after that will try to install C008. I'll let you know if this worked out.

SOLVED!

It was what I was choosing in the install options that messed everything up, specifically choosing the Common Hardware items - I just wiped the disc, did a clean install again and left those options unticked

Now all I have to do is find some display drivers that'll allow me to set my desktop to 1920x1200...
