redtom Posted March 12, 2007 Share Posted March 12, 2007 Ok, had a bash at OSX86 10.4.8 installation and everything went swimmingly until I got to the restart bit - I removed the installation dvd and it went into the Darwin menu, I continued on and it loaded the grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning thing whereupon my monitor went into sleep mode and nothing I did would take it out of sleep mode. So I went back to Darwin and did the -v boot and the screen attached is what came up... Any ideas? macgirl Posted March 12, 2007 Share Posted March 12, 2007 No, if it has no HD connected the Motherboard doesn't detect a HD then it has no priority. Anyway, that kext also enables PATA (IDE) disks on Nforce4 chipset with better performance than the AppleOnboardPCATA.kext. redtom Posted March 13, 2007 Author Share Posted March 13, 2007 Ok, little update: I was looking through everything last night and realised that my HD was setup all wrong - I had the switcher on Slave and it was connected with the Master connection on the IDE cable (I checked the BIOS too, it wasn't even seeing the HD), so I guess when I rebooted after the installation that's why it wasn't seeing the "root device". So I turned everything off, setup the HD correctly (now visible in BIOS as Primary IDE Device) and did a completely new install. This time round there was no "Still Waiting For Root Device" message and it looked like it was going to boot ok, as the -v boot log looked like it was loading drivers for this that and the other. However, the same problem occured - the monitor went into sleep mode and wouldn't come out of it. I couldn't grab a pic of the -v log as it went by too fast and didn't hold on last entry on screen long enough, so I don't have a clue what it was trying to do when it stopped working - is it possible to scroll the -v log yourself with up/down keys, or with page up and down keys? I saw someone do that on DOS once, can you do same here? Anyway, I'm guessing it might be a display driver issue or something - maybe OSX86 isn't compatible with my Radeon X700 Pro card? Boot in single user mode (-s) and move or delete any of Natit or Callisto kexts, that lets you run in VESA. You should be able to install osx natively on a SATA nforce Drive. Bluetrax Posted March 15, 2007 Share Posted March 15, 2007 what does "still waiting for root device" mean? Does it have to do with not being able to read the HD or DVD DRIVE? or USB HD? Also, is there a fix for "IOUSBMASS STORAGEDEVICE" "no kernal dependency". I was able to boot from IDE dvd, and load to usb HD once...but I cant do it again haha. Any advice? 10.4.8, and 10.4.7 both giving me problems. usb no kernal dependency waiting for root device Any advice about these errors? and possible commands such as -v -x -s -f..as to what they stand for?
