hey guys,

Last night, I tried to install Ubuntu onto my external harddrive (to no avail) but in any case, I now have the original ntfs partition and an ext3 partition, both of which take up about half of the disc... but now I can no longer see the drive at all in vista (an error message pops up about the drive malfunctioning) and when using Gparted on ubuntu livecd, I can only format and change the size of the ext3 partition... the ntfs partition gives an error of not existing in that location (or something along those lines). can anyone help me out? i no longer care about installing ubuntu but would really like to have a usable external drive again

Do you have data you want to save in your NTFS partition?

If not, you could use something like this to erase the entire drive:

There is a number of other tools which *could* repair your drive: Partition Magic, Partition Table Doctor:

There are also great collections of tools, like the Ultimate Boot CD:

Or the Hiren's BootCD (google for this one, as I suppose it is illegal).
