Before you start yelling me for not reading any guides or tutorials or using the search engine, osxx86.info is down. So don't blame me. :D

Caution: Noob at the OSXx86 scene here. Beware. :)

Okay then. Once I actually found about the OS X x86 thing, with no delay, went to try it. I bought some cheap 80GB PATA (IDE) HDD for it.

My complete specifications:

P4 Northwood 2.8 GhZ

Abit IS-20

Kingston PC3200 DDR RAM

80 GB Samsung PATA

LG CD-RW/DVD combo drive

That's basically my old rig, which I decided to convert to a Mac.

My "worklog" went as following:

I had a working XP pro on my old rig's 20GB IDE Maxtor HDD. I set it as master and set the "new" 80GB IDE as slave. Booted up. Turns out the new 80GB has some files in it, even has windows installed in it. Deleted all file I could manually. Then wanted to format. When using right click-> Format, it said some process is using it and it cannot be formated. So, instead of looking which process is it I used cmd and just format E:. It also said there is another process using it, but it said if I want to force dismount the handle. So I did. Formatted, NTFS. Okay then. Inserted JaS Mac OS X x86 10.4.7 DVD and shutted it down. Set the 80GB has master, disconnected the 20GB. Before, on VMWare, it gave me a Kernel stack fault error, but instead of the same here, it did something different. In verbose mode, it stopped after loading some stuff (sorry, can't remember) and popped up "Still waiting on root device". Shut down, googled it up on laptop. Turns out some older CD/DVD drives don't work properly with it. Eh, so I moved the 80GB to my current C2D rig. Swapped with the 60GB I had in it. Disconnected the 500GB SATAII I had in it. NTDLR is missing. Guh. So I took the Sony DVD-RW drive that I had in it, and the 80GB out and put it in my old Northwood rig. Again. NTDLR is missing. (Even with the LG drive disconnected.) Disconnected the Sony drive, used LG again. Well, what do you know, it got further. Found boot device and stuff. took a while, but it got to the installer. So, I installed everything, except X11. (No idea what is it.), following the tutorial that came with the iso. Created and activated partition, all that jazz. So, at the end, it needs to reboot. Okay, the tutorial says, let it reboot.

continuing

done

MACH reboot

And it froze. Waited for 15 mins, pushed reset. Forgot to set it in verbose mode, stopped at Login Window Application started.

And froze again. Reset, set it to verbose mode this time. I took some photos, and the errors I can sweep out of the photos are:

Mar  2 20:21:44 kextd[29]: kld_load_from_memory() failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.k???/nts/PlugIns/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/Contesnts/MacOS/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin

Mar  2 20:21:44 kextd[29]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginF???/Contents/PlugIns/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext

The ??? is out of the photo range, so no idea what was written there.

Those two were after Mathcing service count = 3 (4 times) and then, =5, once.

After those few lines, it seemed to identify serial ports on ACPI device UAR1; Detecte some device, possibly the built-in newtork card, as it showed MaxBaud=115200.

Next lines:

(Is there a point writing the dates?)

<date>localhost mDNSResponder-108 (Dec 25 2005 11: 57:53)[46]: starting

<date>localhost DirectoryService[66]: Launched version 2.1 (v353.2)

AppleBCM440XEthernet: Externet address 00:50:8d:69:da:d4

<date>localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/Loginwindow: Login Window application started

<date>localhost mDNSResponder: Couldn't read user-specified Computer Name; using default bMacintosh-00508D6????4b??? instead.

<date>localhost mDNSResponder: Couldn't read user-specified local hostname; using default bMacintosh-00508D6????4b??? instead.

And it froze again. Rebooted a few times, no result.

Could anyone tell me what to do, to make it boot up?

Thanks in advance, mx781.
