I dropped a generic VIA VT6306 3+1 FW400 PCI card into my Dell Optiplex GX280 running a JaS 10.4.8 SSE2 install this morning. The install has never shown anything listed under 'PCI Cards' in system profiler but the Intel eepro100 card in there works fine and connecting my external firewire hdd to one of the 6306s port shows it imnmediately on the desktop. The external hdd also does USB2 and initial feelings are that with it connected to fw400 it runs *much* faster but unfortunately appears to lock up under heavy usage (i.e. unrar'ing and par2'ing large numbers of files). I've seen a few mentions of this chipset online wrt to earlier versions not reporting the maximum packet size properly but they all seemed to suggest a situation where it either worked properly or not at all which is not the behaviour I'm observing. Anyone got any bright ideas?

For what it's worth, I'm experiencing the same problem here... All I did was install the Zonet ZFN 2600 PCI card, and it was automatically detected, and picked up my external firewire drive as soon as I installed it. It starts out fast, but ends up slowing down/stalling after enough data is transferred.

Frustrating, since I'm trying to transfer user accounts, applications, etc from my MacBook. Let me know if you come up with a solution?
