sziggle
every time software update pops up on my hackintosh i wonder whether i should or should not install any of the growing list of updates available. judging by the scattered faqs all over the place in here, a lot of other people are wondering too. i suggest that we make this a software update sticky that would let people report their update experiences as new updates come out. for those reporting success or failure with a specific update, i think it would be really helpful to give at least a rudimentary description of your hardware (at the very least whether you are on intel or amd) so that other people could gauge how likely your results are to be similar to theirs. my hardware is in my sig. the only direct experiences i can relate is that updating things like iPhoto seemed to be absolutely no problem, and that i also did the 2007 airport update some weeks ago (sorry i cannot remember the exact name of the update), and it did indeed break my wifi. i fixed it by editing the plist inside the updateed IO80211Family kext to re-include the signature for my wifi device (0x168C, 0x2051). to start the ball rolling, here is a list of the updates that are currently tantalizing me in the software update app. i am running AMD64 on an nForce3 motherboard with SATA disks, and i would love to know if anyone with similar hardware has had success or failure with the following updates: Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 5 X11 Update 2006 Security Update 2007-002 (Universal) Security Update 2007-001 Daylight Savings Time Update i have searched here pretty extensively on the two security updates and results seem to be mixed (as well as scattered through a bunch of different posts), so i am hoping that we could consolidate software update reports into this one thread and if it seems useful, maybe a moderator could make it a sticky. maybe there are even some guru's that know what is and is not tweaked in a given hack-release and could actually give an informed opinion about specific updates based on the list of their actual contents, rather than the relative voodoo of "i tried it and it worked for me!".
