grav
Not to brag or anything, but I have been reasonably good at using the search function of this forum whenever I had a problem. However, the search function completely fails me whenever I try looking up most abbreviations. These are very often three letters long, but for some reason, the forum will just return 0 results when searching for something of 3 or less letters. For instance I can't search for VLC or AGP. This is silly and it just means alot of unnecessary posts. Why is this limit there? Another (more subjective) thought is that I think all search terms should be mandatory in the search results. For instance, if I search for "radeon geforce" I will get results that have either radeon, geforce or both in them, and in no particular order (for instance results with both terms aren't necessarily listed first). It is of course possible to prefix any search term with a + which makes it mandatory, but I have yet to search for more than one word without using the plus, simply because otherwise you get too many results. So why not just make it the default? Google does it ;-) Edited February 22, 2007 by grav Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43150-search-function-inadequate/ Share on other sites
fireshark
It was because of if people keep searching for 'a', there's a lot of search results returned and it might make the server slow. (Remember, IPB was started a while ago) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43150-search-function-inadequate/#findComment-308612 Share on other sites
MyghKaR5b
yea search on this site definitely sucks. Try searching for "Bad Axe 2" you get no results, yet I've personally made new threads with "Bad Axe 2" in the title. Also you can't search for things like ppf or ppc. Next to digg, this site as the worst search I've ever seen. Sorry guys.
