exas
the problem is that there is a "hidden" screen on my notebook running mac os x 4.8 , the resolution of the screen is 800x600 and is to the right side of the screen, so when i move my mouse over to the edge, it actaully goes over and ends up off screen. this is an anoying problem since i cannot see the other screen, i am guessing this problem occured because i have to use the 1paperclip/2paperclip trick on the VGA out and this ends up tricking the OS leading it to think that there is a second screen. normally i wouldnt mind since i found a fix but that fix now does not work. before i solved the problem like this, when the os starts up and i login, i go into display preferences and click "detect displays" and afterwards the second screen is gone. afterwards i clicked the checkbox that allows the display button to show up on the menubar and everytime i start up, after everything is done loading i just click detect displays from the menu and problem solved. (btw, this seems to only work if i have 2 paperclips on the vga out(1-6, 2-12) cuz the 1 paperclip setup doesnt work for me when detecting displays one could say i could just move the second screen out of the way, say into a corner, and i probably will never have my mouse jump into it and spend the extra few seconds wondering where my mouse cursor went and then drag it out of the hidden screen. but the problem is that some programs, say if i close a program, a popup will showup and ask if i really want to close the program, this is not a problem until one time this popup showed up in the hidden screen and when this happened, i escentually had a frozen program with unsaved work. and now "detect display" trick doesnt work anymore(at least not reliably), sometimes it blue screens and i end up restarting the system. does anyone out there have a fix? i really want to get rid of the second screen because, if anything shows up there, i cant do annything about it now since i cant click "detect displays" to make it go away. edit************************ ok, i found a small workaround, if anything shows up on the other screen, i found that i can jump to the next screen if i go into display preferences and move the menubar over to the next screen. then i can close it any programs that show up there etc and then swap the menubar back to the main display and evrything will be back to normal.\ but still, seems like a lot of work, it would be great if there was a permanant fix btw, is this the right place to post such a topic, or would i be better off posting this elsewhere if i can get help on such issues?
