efimovich
Here's the story, with simple steps to follow for anyone with my hardware who gets here via the search function. All in all, I'm rather pleased, and most grateful to everyone whose hard work made this possible Installed from Release 1 patched DVD AMD 3200+ (Venice) ASUS A8N-SLI Gigabyte GV-RX80L256V Radeon X800XL Samsung SP0802N (PATA) Pioneer DVR-106D Linksys WMP54Gv2 BenQ x500 Keyboard (USB) Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 4.0A (USB) Working: AC97 Sound (although not through coaxial S/PDIF ...) Using IOATAFamily.kext from this post Copy to /system/library/extensions/ Repair permissions using Disk Utility ATA UDMA support Using AppleAC97Audio.kext from this post Copy to /system/library/extensions/ Repair permissions using Disk Utility Linksys WMP54Gv2 Wireless card Using AppleAirPort2.kext from this post Copy to /system/library/extensions/ Repair permissions using Disk Utility Use iStumbler added to login items in System Preferences>Accounts with Auto-Join Best Network set in iStumbler preferences. 1280x1024x32 resolution Drag the file /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist to the desktop. Add the following lines <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1280×1024x32</string> Drag it back over the top of the old file, overwriting and authenticating. Repair disk permissions with Disk Utility. Problems: Refresh rate Despite the X800XL being detected as VESA v3.0 16MB (ATI ATOMBIOS) and ?video showing MODE 124: 1280X1024X32 mm:6 attr:bf "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32@85" makes the system hang on boot, with the message display: Not usable So I have 60Hz display using "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32" on my CRT. I tried robertx's method here to apply TRAC's VESA 3 fix for boot sector, but it didn't work (same error message as before when trying to change the refresh rate). Currently downloading Darwin to try the startupfiletool method detailed in the same post. My eyes are hurting and my fingers are crossed ... platform=X86PC booting with platform=X86PC results in a kernel panic: panic(cpu 0 caller 0xC0321D8B): Unable to find driver for this platform: "X86PC" Restart Restart does not work with platform=ACPI. System just hangs with the pretty segmented wheel thing. I hope this post will ease the way for others with my hardware. Also, if anyone can give me any pointers regarding the few remaining issues I have, I'd be most grateful. AMD64oSx
Well after comtemplating testing OSX x86 I finally decided to give it a shot. By no means am I a mac specialist or a linux buff so this is all new to me. However, I can hold my own on windows so I use the basic principles and it seems to have worked out well for me. However, I do have have a question if you would indulge me. I have managed to get everything working and it seem to be running extremely well. At first I had no sound and network support but after following a few guides sound is awesome and as for the network well I'm writing this with my new OSX X86 AMD64. Everything is working fine no crashes yet, knock on wood and there isn't a slight issue with performance. If fact, I'm extremely impressed with the performance. So I would really like to thank everyone for their hard work and effort for all the documentation. One question, I have a gforce3 ti200 128mb with a Sony E500 so I'm used to running @ 1280x1028@100hz. I noticed the previous poster said his box crashes when he tries bumping the refresh rate would that be because of the graphics card or the vesa drivers. I have searched but have not found any info and I apologize if I overlooked it. Any suggestions? if not I'm very happy the way it is but would love to run it at my regular viewing res and refresh rate. Other than that I was very impressed even downloaded picture from dig cam via usb no issues and Itunes work perfectly thanx everyone.
