Hey guys. New here so let me give you some background first on my setup. I installed OS 10.4.6 x86 HOTISO running on SSE3 on my Gateway laptop, dual booting with XP, no problems. Install went smooth. Everything worked but soundcard (sigmatel 9220) and wireless card (intel 3495) Read up and I realize there are ongoing driver issues with these. Now my question is 1, would upgrading to the newest/latest kernel be worth it/resolve these issue? (Tried it once, had no idea what I was doing trying to go to 10.4.8). And 2, can someone point me in in the right direction/tell me how to do the upgrade?

Anyway, have also read on the wiki project for info, pretty useful overall.

P.S. When using my Hackintosh, I dont get the Genie effect when I mouse over the icons on the bottem as I have when I used a real MAC. Anyone know why? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Frankietabs! Welcome!

Ok now the best way to do the update to 10.4.8 on an intel sse3 machine is to download the 10.4.8 combo update from APPLE software updates (I would recommend grabbing it through their website).

DO NOT INSTALL IT YET AS IT WILL SCREW YOUR INSTALL UP!!

go to this thread:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...o+update+script

You may have to pm eGwan to find out more "info" about the program as it's a dmca violation(within the above thread).

Follow his isnstructions and you will be updated to 10.4.8.

After you are done with the install then upgrade your kernel using Semthex's latest build (fixes some issues), look in a search for script3vcom.dmg, if you can't find it pm me and I'll get you it. It auto updates your kernel without you having to touch anything (requires some type of internet connection to download the new kernel).

For you Audio, I believe there is a working solution now (but not sure if it supports sigmatel 9220, works for my 9200):

go here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=32859&hl=

You download his program on the first post and drag a codec dump (Txt file of your soundcard from linux) and it does everything for you! In one of the downloads (1.08 i think) in the first post they have codec dumps you can use! He's still improving the compatibility with the audio cards but so far I have audio (as of 1 day ago!)

For wireless (I have the same) they have an almost completely functional driver being developed here:

Good luck and if you have any further questions feel free to ask if you can't find it searching!

EDIT: to make the genie effect happen simply go to the apple sign in the top left and go to "system preferences" then look for the one that says "dock" and in there it lets you mess with it. Mac is cool because there are a lot of things you can do! I just found out that if you hold down control and used the mouse scroll wheel (or plus and minus) that it lets you zoom in and around the screen!!

Thanks for the quick reply. If thought I did something wrong. I had read the link you provided before but I screwed because I installed it before the patch,

Also for the Genie effect, I have gone in the preferences and it is set properly but it doesnt seem to work. When I scroll over each icon it doesn't "genie". They only "jump up" when I click the icon.

As well, I know how to force quit through the menu but how do you do it via the keyboard?
