jezza
I have a dell 9400 laptop. I have used Jas 10.4.6 dvd on my machine before and worked perfectly. However due to low harddrive space i wanted to install the osx on my external usb hdd instead (it about 12gb in size). I boot the jas dvd and follow the prompts, however i go to the disk utility to format the usb drive, howewver it always just comes up with errors if i try to format in anything but either ms-dos or unix file system. It will not allow me to format in any of the other file systems (as in osx journalled and others). I instead formatted it with the unix file system and contined installation. All seemed well untill it rebooted as part of the install, and it just wont boot off the usb drive! I have tried manually formatiing it with diskpart and it will come up as a journalled partition in the disk utility under osx setup, however it wont mount correctly! I have installed it on the unix file system, and tried setting the drive as primary active with acronis disk director and still no go. is there something im missing? I looked through the board and couldnt find any answers. why wont it format in journal filing system? i dont care if i have to use the unix file system - i just want it to boot. (yes i specified the bios to boot from usb drive). Is osx only compatable with some hdd's? any help would be much appreciated guys cheers Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41092-hardrive-will-not-format-in-journall/ Share on other sites
