Hi.

im trying to install the vmware image natively using DD following the guide in OSX-X86 Official Home Page.

i manage to install the vmware image up to this point at the windows xp cmd screen

6,441,878,016

12581793+0 records in

12581793+0 records out

---

after that, my system remains idle. so i reboot, selecting the hard disk to which OSX was installed (IDE0, Master) and i get the following message:

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK

help anyone?

here's my system:

WinFast NForce4

AMD Athlon64 3000+, 512mb RAM

Inno3D GeForce 6500, 256mb

IDE0, Master = Seagate 80g

IDE0, Slave = Lite-on CDRW

IDE1, Master = Seagate 80g

SATA 0 = Seagate 80g

It appear that the boot loader isn't there.

Did you skip the first 63 sectors?

yes i did. skip=63

i van view the harddisk on XP Disk Management. it says unknown partition. hhhmmm. i'll try if i can set the partition to active using diskpart. do you think that would work? the rest of the harddisk remains unallocated.

but im so sleepy now. maybe tomorrow :(

thanks!

You skip the 63 only when you don't want to rewrite the boot sector, so it keeps the previous boot loader.

If that disk only contains the Mac OS you shout write those 63 first sectors. but the good news is that you can DD only those.

If that disk has another OS and you want to keep it's own boot loader you need the chain0 file to boot from that boot loader.

Look at the guides for dual booting on the tutorials section.
