Here goes nothing...

So I\'m new, I hate to admit it, but my knowledge of computers is superficial. I never thought it was until I began reading around here. I have very, very limited experience(appareanly) as to any kind of editing/hacking. Please don\'t burn me for trying a crazy project with such little experience. Oh...and before I forget and continue babbling on about me, I\'m sooo sorry if this is the wrong place to post! But besides that, I am terribly confused as to where to begin. I understand how every \"Mod/Person with experience\" has made it clear to SEARCH, but everything i find just takes my mind in circles as to where to go. I\'ve read the wiki countless times, and to no avail has it helped me. I don\'t quite know why. But theres another quite annoying catch to this. I cannot hack my Toshiba(as much as I\'d like to, my family would MURDER me) So the test subject will be a Dell Latitude C840.(actually I hope it will, it\'s not mine) I believe I can do it, I just don\'t really want to ruin that laptop either. I think I\'ve made it harder for myself by learning how to do it for this Toshiba, but not for the Dell. This is an absolutely mind-blowing, amazing project! The people who work on it are amazing too! lol But back to the topic because I believe I wander too much. So I kinda-sorta get the disk image burning(which I know is illegal) I read in the wiki about 10.4.7 working on the Dell Latitude C840. There\'s something different about the one that may, or may not come into my possession, it dosen\'t have built in wireless.(it doesent need that though, right?) I\'m not completely sure as to what specs it has yet but I am sure of the model. But I\'m lost after that.(as in kernels and patches) just to get everyhing possible working. I\'m really sorry now, I probably shouldn\'t heve even started this thread. But from what I\'ve been scanning as I\'m typing this it sounds waaay easier to do on my Toshiba, but I can\'t. So anyway, here I am. Confuzzled. Many, many thanks in advance for any help offered.(I suppose I just need to gather my thoughts also lol)

 

Ok, and one more thing, would you suggest I start from scratch(blank hd), or have XP on it, partitioned?
