Issues w/ new Jas 10.4.8 install

My roommate asked me to put OS X on his toshiba satellite m105-s3041. Everything works beautifully except for networking (Intel Pro 10/100 VM and Intel ABG 3945) and his sound (HD Audio ALC0861).

 

I'm totally new to OS X (i only use linux/windows) and the only things I know are what I've read on here for about a day or so. I'm just looking for a little general guidance.

 

In no way shape or form do I expect to get the 3945 working. If somebody manages to get a driver working for that then that would be awesome but I told my roommate to buy another adapter for wireless. I would however like to get the wired connection and audio working.

 

For each I've went in and changed around hex codes in varoius .kext packages/whatever to the ven/dev IDs i've found in windows. Both the ethernet connection and hd audio interface are grayed out.

 

I just cannot get the audio working, I feel that i've exhausted all the advice I have found on here so I was just wondering if there were any other options that I could try.

 

For the ethernet connection, it seems that people have had the same problem as I have with the new 10.4.8 release and they have had good luck replacing the IONetworkingfamily.kext package with one from 10.4.3. My question about this is, I have downloaded the zip file that contains the files people have used located here: http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/58342/ION...y-kext-zip.html

 

Looking at this file, there are a couple directories w/files and a couple files outside the directories. I just don't know which files I need to copy over/modify. Any insight would be great.

 

I know that I've been rather vague but it's simply my lack of expertise on the whole matter. I don't even know what .kext packages/files are. If somebody could relate this to something in linux or explain these to me that would be awesome.

 

I must say though, OS X is running VERY well on his laptop except for these complications. I'm very impressed and if I can get these problems fixed I will install it on my laptop also (i have one just like his but with fedora installed).
