Vertigo50
Hello all, This is my first attempt at installing osx86, and everything seemed to go just fine. Mac OS X 10.4.7 AMD Intel (Jas) I installed the AMD patch, as well as the AMD Kernel patch. I got through the install okay. The only hiccup was that when I clicked to "Restart" at the end of the install, it just hung there, with the little dial going around and around. I left it there for about 5 minutes or more, but there was no hard drive activity or anything, so I did a hard reset. As bad as that sounds, I don't think that caused any problems. I think it just got hung up trying to restart. But when it booted up I got the weird green and pink squares that I've seen mentioned in other posts. It seems to be loaded up, I just can't see the screen. Seems like a video issue, but I'm not sure what to do next. I've seen suggestions to use -x or hold the shift key while booting, which I believe boots into safe mode, is that correct? Assuming that works and I can get into the OS, what should I try next? If it doesn't work, what should I try? (I'm at work right now, so I can't try it at the moment? I've seen people with similar issues, but not many solutions. Can you give me some things to try or point me to some helpful posts? See my sig for my hardware specs, and please ask if you need more info. I'm very excited about the prospect of running OS X, and I'm very knowledgeable of computers in general, just very new to this, and reading and searching and reading hasn't gotten me much closer. Vertigo50
UPDATE: I tried the -x option, and that got me into the registration screens, but my keyboard isn't loaded, so I can't type anything in, thus I can't get any further. Is there a way to selectively choose to load the keyboard, but still do the -x option? What exactly does -x do, by the way? Is it possible the keyboard was causing the problem? Would a USB adapter for the keyboard help? It's a PS/2 keyboard. Vertigo50
Thanks for the reply. I actually tried the new 10.4.8 version and got it to load into the OS. I suspect that part of the problem may have been that I was running a PS/2 keyboard and a USB mouse. Some people have said this causes problems. So now my issue is getting my internal ethernet to work. Having never installed a driver in OS X ever, this will be interesting. Any tips on where I might look? And not to sound like a total moron, but how do you install drivers on OS X?
