Hi All

I managed to get 10.4.6 to work on my T42 last year by simply making a boot dvd of JaS's ISO's and running through the installation which is all pretty straight forward stuff. I have been trying to keep an eye on the forum since to see what's happening and after being away for a short while you guys have gone and released a few more kernels etc. (where you get the time and motivation to do such large amounts of work astonishes me...)

So now there is a 10.4.8 release for SSe2 and I thought I would try it out but I'm not having the same luck as before...

I have searched the forums but after reading through some topics I'm more confused about what the problem could be. Any help would be much appreciated.

I've created a bootable DVD and booted the software. Once loaded I get the,

"Welcome to the JaS OS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSe2 SSe3 Beta v2 Installer" screen

I selected my hard drive and clicked continue (I erased the previous 10.4.6 install with the disk utility and created an empty partition named "AF").

I clicked on custom install and deselected "Language Translations" and expanded "JaS Intel 10.4.8 ATA kexts included" selecting "10.4.8.Intel.SSe2.SSe3". I also selected "10.4.4 Loginwindow.Intel.Only" and then continued with the install. Once completed the installation reboots and

If I just leave the machine to reboot without pressing any keys it says,

"System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found.

If I pop the DVD out and let the system try and start then all I get is a blank screen with a cursor flashing in the top left hand corner.

Could anyone help out and suggest what is wrong or point me in the right direction to the answer if it has already been posted.

Many Thanks in advanced....

Hey frenchie

Thanks for replying.

Well during the time it took for someone to reply I found a topic mentioning something about updating the “JaS OS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSe2 SSe3.iso” with the following “JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSe2.SSe3.v1p ppf” update. So I updated the iso and wiped the drive like you said with partition magic using hiren’s boot cd.

So now I have booted to the DVD to start a new install and got the following,

"Welcome to the JaS OS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSe2 SSe3 Installer" screen

--- Doesn’t say "Welcome to the JaS OS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSe2 SSe3 Beta v2 Installer"

Clicked continue,

Now have the “Select a Destination” screen without any drive option

--- Probably due to wiping the drive in partition magic.

So I click on Utilities and select “Disk Utility”

On the left window I have my 55.9 GB Hard drive and also the 4.4 GB DVD RW.

So I select the hard drive and click on “Partiton”.

Select “1 Partiton”

Give the partition the name “AF”

Format the drive as “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”

Clicked on Partition to partition the drive.

Once complete I quit the Disk Utility tool and now have a drive to choose in the Select Destination Screen.

I selected that and clicked continue.

The next screen I get is “Custom Install on AF” with the following already checked,

Essential System Software (this is also greyed out by default and the size is 25.GB when it was 1.1GB before the patch)

Printer Drivers

Language Translations.

I the make some changes by

Deselecting Language Translations.

Expanded "JaS Intel 10.4.8 ATA kexts included" selecting "10.4.8.Intel.SSe2.SSe3".

I also selected "10.4.4 Loginwindow.Intel.Only"

NB! Now there is no where that I can select the 10.4.8 kernel by Semthex (or whatever has "Semthex" next to it) as there is nothing with Semthex in the list.

So I click on install and wait for the install to finish. Once completed the installation reboots and……….

IT WORKS. I left for a meeting and when I came back the install had finished and rebooted to the welcome screen which wasn’t what I was expecting. So I must have done something wrong in the beginning with not setting the hard drive up correctly.

Thanks to everyone in the community who make this possible.

UPDATE: I just rebooted to make sure it was workng and all is fine except for when I use the mouse to select or move things. If I click on something the mouse disappears and when I move the mouse it reappears but there is a block of white pixles where it was. Has anyone seen this behaviour and know if this is something that I can fix?

Regards
