Ok,

Here is where I am at.

I have been doing some research and have decided I want to give the Mac a try. This is a change I have been fighting for over 25 years. I am only 34....so a very long time!

How bad is my Anti-Mac addiction? Well I remember going into Crazy Eddie (some of you may remember this...some may not. One of the first really LARGE electronic stores back east) and seeing an Apple VS C64. Well I got the C64 (which I still have very fond memories of, so no knocking it! )

Anyway, I never owned an Apple ][ of any apple of any sort!

Well my story this time starts from the chapter of Time Management. No, I am not looking for programs on a Mac which do that. I decided at the start of the year to do some auditing of my time throughout the day to see how much time I am taking up doing non-productive things.

Well would you believe that I spend over an hour a day, trying to uninstall or install, virus check, get rid of spy ware manually, figure out why my computer is slow and how to fix it. Trying to figure out why every other mouse click takes 3 seconds to active the item I clicked on.

Anyway I was stunned.

So today I tried to figure out the best way to get that time back, well it is to ditch the main thing taking my time away, the Microsoft OS.

Well I called apple and spoke to them about purchasing thier OS and putting it on my BRAND NEW, less the 60 day old Toshiba Tablet. Well guess what....they will sell me the OS but most likely it will not work. After some more research I understand that most of the hardware I have will not have drivers written for a MAC.

After looking over the wiki hardware list, I see they are very correct.

So are my only options at this point either:

-Building a Desktop

-Trying via VMWare on my Laptop

-Purchasing a Macbook

My Second set of questions is relating to installing XP within a MAC. I have some programs for my work that have not been created to work on a MAC. So does that parallel software work as well as it claims. Can I really have a totally full, working XP within a MAC? This is going to be a major point for me.

Anyone know of the limitations, if any, of that software?

I would love any advice, help, comments, butt-kicking, etc.......

Wow....the first response is my self...how big of an ego do I really have?

Anyway, since I just spent over $3000 on this Toshiba....I am not in the mood to plop another $3000 again.

What would a basic Macbook ($900) be comparable to? Meaning from what I read...the XP install within the MAC OS seems to run better then within a dedicated PC!!

So I am also wondering everyone's thoughts on that.

Thanks Again!!

Well went to the wiki over at: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

and looked around for my laptop. The best I could find was a Tecra M4 but it is almost a completely different machine then mine.

Also I have to be realistic about things, I think.

The whole reason I am thinking about switching is so I can get rid of the stupid OS, hardware issues, and I am wanting to have a system that runs without issues.

So maybe doing virtualization of the MAC OS on a pc, and trying to patch a OS together is just not worth it.

Should I start directing my questions on the path of.... how and to what does the $900 macbook compare to.
